Should I shave my face for Full Frontal 5000?
I know how you girls like scruff, but I'm slightly beyond the scruff phase.
You Fuckin' Did It
This is an entry from Jason's old blog that I managed to nab before the little whore gentleman deleted it. It's one of my favorites, posted some time around September of 2010.
As tour resumes this week, I return to my yoga practice – to be in union with the breath of life – with all of creation – to speak a universal language – to share myself so that it may speak to you and in turn be a reflection of what you may say to me and all the invisible dances we do in between. It had been a while since I hit the mat and I’m so grateful to be back. Before every class I set an intention – something I want to focus on, overcome, or be in alignment with. Today, all I could do was celebrate.
I have a mantra that turns over and over in my head and often finds its way out of my lips for the purpose of acknowledging another, especially for their accomplishments but not limited to. Even something as simple as being alive deserves a nod, as it is quite a feat if you stop and think about it. We’re all so fleshy, soft and fragile yet somehow able to dodge speeding cars, sharks, lightning, second hand smoke, fast food, finger pointing, and oil catastrophes. If you’re reading this, you’re WAY above average because you have ELECTRICITY AND some kind of communication device that enables you to connect to the most expansive community we The Human have ever seen. My celebration mantra I share with to you is this: You Fucking Did It. Write it somewhere where you can be reminded of how awesome you are – where you can high five yourself for having been up to big things and doing it well. The mirror is a great place for affirmations. Brush your teeth and stroke your ego at the same time. You deserve it. After all, quality of life is only the way YOU define it. I want “You Fucking Did It” on my tombstone. I’ve just returned from the desert. It was out there that I heard the call to get back into yoga - to stand grounded, as my career is one based on movement – and to stay flexible, as my career is one that welcomes criticism. Out in the desert, I saw a glimpse of a possible future – one that won’t be based on money. Cash will be obsolete and credit determined solely on kindness. Random acts of kindness will go a long way in this new idea of the world. Creating something for the primary purpose of “stoking somebody out” will be the new definition of work. Forget about working for the man – instead, consider yourself of service to your fellow man. In the future, everyone is an artist because it is in THESE DAYS that we realize that each of us is a Creator – each of us are Gods and Goddesses making breaking doing learning living loving. (There was never any separation from us and them anyway – never any space between heaven and earth – we were always swimming in the divine waters, perhaps just too deep to see it until now.) In this all too near future, the veil is lifted and we let the dust in along with the light. We no longer cling to chemicals to keep our skin sterile and sanitary. We throw away the old koan, “Cleanliness is Godliness” and pack in a lot more dirt to the underside of our fingernails. We were born to rock, not watch TV. Like it is when we go camping, we quickly snap back into primal mode, remembering how to squat down low to eat and to wash clothes and dishes and we manage to survive on very little. Nature is our entertainment and we allow nature to determine our diet and sleep patterns. In the future, we FINALLY see Earth as a container where anything goes – a place where radical self-expression is the norm - a place where you can walk naked among thousands of people and get the cosmic joke that nobody cares. We finally stop worrying about what other people think and suddenly there is no war. Vanity is a thing of the past. Judgment doesn’t go any deeper than that of an art critic. We forget about any idea about the way things are SUPPOSED to be and remember it’s all made up anyway. Our future is unwritten and we harness that nothingness until it becomes the most beautiful and easy existence we’ve ever known. Science and Spirituality finally run hand in hand and any doubts about the power of our own minds healing the world are gone. We get it and we fucking do it – constantly. Are we there yet? Are we fit to see this future? Will we be smart enough to vote for it, to create it for ourselves – to live in harmony with nature? Will we soon see green solutions and earth friendly ideas implemented? Or are we not yet evolved enough to live here? Money is made up. Let it go. Love is the only thing that is real. The future is here for us to be amped, to be motivated, to remind each other that each is doing amazing things. Create this world as so and it will transform itself into a place of wonder right before our eyes. I hope to be 80 someday with lots of grandkids. When that happens I’ll stand in mountain pose in front of the mirror and remark at the sparkly world that is safe and abundant for all. I’ll nod to the beginner looking back at me and acknowledge the part of ME that is YOU - and without pause I’ll tell you everything I know to be true. You Fucking Did It.
We are all beginners. We haven’t done this before. You haven’t been you on this day before. I haven’t been someone’s solid rock before. I haven’t been me at 33 before. Each day is new and we’re all allowed to fall down as often as we need to. It is through these mistakes and fumbles that we’ll likely get it right next time.
