Huh. According to Nomura, lifting Midgar on pillars far above the ground is a metaphor for people abandoning the land/planet. I never thought about it that way. Makes sense Shinra distancing itself from Gaia.
I always think they did something in Compilation of Final Fantasy VII because they just went "Hey, you know what would look cool?" but a lot of times it has a deeper meaning.
I love FFVII games and the movie and books and everything so much!
