My first diamond bricks MOC. A little chocobo 💜
On the way to the promised land.
Lines traced from Last Order: Final Fantasy VII.
Posting my art on tumblr for the first time hehe!
On that day five years ago... Sephiroth sitting by the top floor window in the Nibelheim inn that night before they climb up Mt. Nibel to inspect Reactor Nr. 1. The scenery looks familiar, he says, but he has no idea why. Colored with alcohol markers. So this is what the light study was for...
I made a zzz oc because I've been in love with the game since launch :,3 Totally didn't make Pepper so I can be cringe and free and ship him with Lighter or anything...(〃▽〃)
Cow power!
Me: I'm not gonna draw much texture this time... Also me: F that, I actually like drawing wood texture.
Me: I'm not gonna draw an elaborate background for this one... Also me: F that, I actually enjoy drawing backgrounds now.
Been working on this all week after work. I'm scared of coloring it, so I made sure to scan the lineart nicely so that I can print it out and try again if necessary...
Did a color/light study for an old artwork I'm trying to recreate. I realized too late that I was drawing on the wrong side of the paper, though, haha. The markers blend more like watercolors on this side of the paper, which may be the effect you might be going for, but this wasn't intentional here and it kinda looks like crap. I still finished it as well as possible as it gave me some valuable pointers as to what else I will have to consider. Going to do another study, on the right side of the paper then and argh, I need to do the actual lineart as well.... but now that the holidays are over, I'm not sure how much time I'll have
Hand studies! First copied the studies from Christopher Hart's book, then did some of my own. Not perfect still, but getting better.
I made a little video about my 30 day drawing challenge as an intermediate artist. Maybe someone finds this motivational.
Merry Christmas. Here's a chocobo I drew.
I recreated my Purple Pentapus Pirats drawing using color markers. Yeah, no, the clouds look like cake frosting, but aside from that, I Kinda like how it turned out.
So here's the cat I painted.
In case you're wondering why there's purple in the coat... it's because I'm stupid and don't do this shit in daylight. I thought it was brown ;_;
The difficulty of finding proper reference images in 2024...
I'm just looking for cute cats playing in the snow and at least 50 % of the early google image search results is AI-generated. Like, visibly AI-generated, and not even well-made. Like this "wonderful" example of two orange cats, the left, a three-legged and snow-pawed bend-tailed beauty, and on the right, a tiny-faced two-legged, snow-tailed kitten.
I'd rather work with shaky, blurry, imperfect photos of actual cats playing in the actual snow as reference images than... whatever this is.
What's more... most of these pictures are clearly and visibly labeled as AI-generated in the search results. I wish google would offer a function to filter these out.
Where's Tseng? Oh, I guess he's out "picking flowers"....
So here's the finished artwork and I gotta say that it's SOOOOOO much easier to draw backgrounds in digital art when you have layers. Although I admit I made a mistake this time by drawing the foreground first, background second (in most cases the other way around is easier). I did make a mess at a few of these edges. I went with my third concrete style, sans the dots, and ended up adding some more structure and definition to the surface using colored pencil and it look sooo nice. The green is coming through a bit on the glove, though. Guess the scanner picks up on colors that I can't even see with my eyes lol.
We love the fact that there are so many art tutorials freely available nowadays, so here are my attempts at a few texture tutorials for concrete surfaces that I found, plus my own input. The huge splatter on the first was not intentional, just the natural consequence of handling traditional media while having zero motoric skills.
I ended up picking the third style for my artwork, sans the dots, which I think are really distracting/too busy for a background texture.
Recreating my lily artwork from the "Limited Options" cover using traditional media. I will add a background once I learn how to paint concrete texture in markers. I didn't want to ruin the picture by cluelessly drawing in a background using a technique I don't understand.
Day 30: "It over! How do you feel?" The image shows my soul leaving my body. I'm really exhausted at this point, but also quite happy for pushing through. This prompt list was really nice and creative and in particular, it allowed me to identify areas I'm lacking in. I feel like I have to relearn anatomy from scratch. It's been 20 years or so since I learned that stuff. I remember proportions, but not stuff like what specific body parts look like from certain angles. I'm also terrible at drawing facial expressions (particularly mouths) and hair and I kinda forgot how to draw folds in clothes. I also want to do more with colors.
At the point of posting it's actually been a week since I completed the 30 days because I didn't start posting about it immediately and I actually didn't take a break, but drew every day. I just need to get more intentional in my practice. I haven't had one specific thing to post about every day. Next goal is 100 days! But I guess I'll post only if I think it's worth it.
