oliver: finally having a good time
percy *bursts in*: my parents have never loved me -
oliver*snaps his book shut*: what have those motherfuckers done this time? is murdering them an option?
my dear friend who has only seen the movies read the first chapter of my fic falling from dusk into dawn and was a wee bit confused.
note that oliver is a minor character scarcely in the movies.
highlights include:
- thinking oliver was irish
- wanting to do a podfic for me, tested out her scottish accent, it needs work
- legitimately thought percy was the weasley that married fleur for a good chunk. I asked her: 'do you think oliver was pining after a married man'? she did. she knows percy is my favourite character. blasphemy.
- actually given that percy and fleur are close in age that would be a hilarious misunderstanding, someone please write
- my friend now knows the highly important piece of trivia that fleur delacour married BILL weasley, not percy, a misunderstanding I never thought I would have to correct
comedy gold.
I wrote a 26k fic working through oliver's war trauma BUT I gave him a boyfriend so it all evens out, right?
percy's autistic moments in falling from dusk into dawn: a compilation
It's not outright stated in the fic because as a wizard in the 90s who grew up isolated from the muggle world, Percy would have lacked the vocabulary to describe himself. Anyway.
And this is all through the lens of Oliver, Percy's best friend who is intimately attuned to Percy:
Not that they do not cuddle. But Oliver is the one who craves it. Percy offers physical affection once every blue moon, only giving it on request tentatively, lovingly, and wonderfully. But he still has his limits, so his cuddles are not indefinite.
“Thanks for arranging this, Penelope,” Percy says, politely. Some people may call Percy overly formal , but Oliver rather likes to think that Percy’s courteous nature is sweet and endearing
“Thanks,” Oliver whispers, because he doesn’t feel like contributing to the din right now, taking a Mars Bar as he keeps an eye on Percy
Percy looks fine, so far, but well. Oliver worries. Percy and loud noises don’t mix, exactly, and if things are too loud, then Percy will get so stressed he won’t be able to enjoy the movie, and that would be bad.
falling from dusk into dawn | harry potter | perciver | mutual pining | best friends to lovers | oliver wood character study | ewe | rated: t | part 1/3 | 10.2k
Oliver’s just tired. Tired of still being constantly alert now that everything has gone still. Tired of everything still feeling fundamentally wrong, when it shouldn’t - not really, now that their world is at peace. But Oliver has never followed the rules.
Percy sighs fondly, wearily, as the night breeze ruffles his copper curls, and Oliver tries not to stare, and want. He fails miserably.
.
The war may have ended, but Oliver Wood cannot escape its shadow. The world is broken, he doesn't know if he wants to return to professional Quidditch now - if ever - and he is still hopelessly and secretly in love with his best friend Percy Weasley.
Or: Oliver Wood has a million existential crises and pines for Percy Weasley. It all works out, somehow.

For @sugareey-makes-stuff as their gift for winning my @fandomtrumpshate auction this year, with the remainder of the fic coming within the next week.
falling from dusk into dawn part three: COMEDY EDITION?
honestly the last chapter of falling from dusk into dawn is lowkey comedic?
“But why do you need her when you have me? I can summarise the Nazis for you briefly, Perce: bad. Evil. Do not restart.”
He spreads his arms out in an exaggerated manner, soap suds sliding down his arms.
.
A towel is whacked non so gently across his legs. "Shower in ten, or we're watching some As Times Go By."
.
He ran himself ragged... then helping rearrange the furniture in Penelope and Lakshmi’s flat as their token jock friend
Thinking of questions is difficult but i'll try
have you ever had a percy(or even not percy) fanfic idea that you love alot but for the life of you just can't write it?
not that I can think of, no, there is no story that I have thought of and haven't been able to write down. I have thought of so many stories to tell that I haven't written, but that's mainly the nature of writing and my time scarcity, not a lack of capacity.
my main issue is not starting to write fanfic, it is finishing it. I have a handful of percy wips I would love to finish - a story exploring his sexuality, my remus outsider pov perciver fic, my cedric & percy fic, my hbp ron & percy canon divergence idea - but gosh, I'm scarce on time, and I have my FTH fics to prioritise (neither which are percy this year - one is shadowhunters and the other is marauders, but I'm excited to start writing them)! there are a lot of stories in the in defence of percy weasley series I would like to write, some more for the YearoftheOTP event - but, alas, time. I'm not a slow writer, I just don't write frequently.
I am still amazed that I finished writing and published a study of cracked gold (my percy & ginny post-war fic) and falling from dusk into dawn (perciver getting together post-war fic), although to be fair ffdid was my FTH gift last year for @sugareey-makes-stuff so there was a deadline [which I lowkey need tbh], which were 18k and 26k, respectively. that's a lot! my most 'I need to FINISH this goddamit' fic is my 42k WWII malec au I started in 2018.
so in short: no, it's getting the stories done that's the issue, not scribbling them down. ffdid is probably the closest - it was a difficult story for me to write, not the least because it wouldn't stop growing (it initially was going to be 10k at max), because it was a character study without much plot aside, focused on a character I hadn't explored in much depth before, but it was a good challenge.
have a question for me? I'm currently taking asks about percy weasley and my writing in celebration of reaching 300 followers!
the secret reason why I kept fred alive in ffdid is about to be revealed -
the oliver vs the twins arc was integral to the story and it wasn’t in oliver’s character to yell at a recently bereaved george.
