#fic tagging

I screenshotted this because I don't want to have this discussion on a post clearly aimed at new AO3 writers, but.

...I have never tagged for top and bottom or for sex positions in my entire life. I'm always weirded out by tag lists that contain descriptions of every single sexual act in the fic.

Especially when it's Transformers fics, which is mostly what I read and write, and a lot of the terms don't properly apply. But I really have to wonder if people actually search for, as an example, "vaginal fingering".

I have toyed with tagging Dominant Soundwave because so many people write him as a sub (which is a thing I Do Not Get, but that's obviously a personal preference) but that's as far as it goes.

(The other main RavWave writer on AO3 writes him submissive as hell and I still read it, though, because yay, RavWave not written by me! My Ravage just has the roundest heels you can put on a cat.)

Then again it's probably not a longfic of mine if only one couple or triad are doing it. For instance in Winding Road there were sex scenes (I'm not counting the one nonconsensual thing) with Dratchet, Nickel/Lyzack, Deathsaurus/Esmeral, MiniMegs, Leozack/Vos, and I think that's it. Maybe. I wasn't about to write Trickdiamond/Tesarus because even though she thought he was funny till the moment she didn't, I think he's gross.

(sorry I'm just so tired of femboy/genderqueer twink damsel in distress sanji and aggressive caveman borderline abusive zoro that I've started avoiding solely Z/S fics in recent years, but I can't stay in my lane if the fics are mistagged can I?)

Guys. If you tag a fic ‘Blorbo & Bleebus’ then both Blorbo and Bleebus have to actually show up in the fic, and have at least one substantial interaction with one another.

If Bleebus isn’t in the fic directly, Blorbo had better be spending an awful lot of time on-page thinking about Bleebus.

Not separate scenes where Blikki talks to Blorbo, then Blikki talks to Bleebus.

Not just a line or two indicating ‘oh, and Bleebus was there too’.

Not just a mention in passing that Bleebus exists.

Not ‘I’m tagging this because it’s an important relationship, they just happen not to have anything to do with each other in this fic’.

Not ‘this is part of a series so I’m tagging them all the same, even though Blorbo and Bleebus don’t see each other in this one’.

Tags tell us what the story is about. If the story is not at least in part about the relationship between Blorbo and Bleebus, don’t tag the relationship!

Question to the Readers!

so I'm at a point with the fic, while I'm like editing and adding new scenes on new days, on Chapter 46 where... u know... things get a little more heated between Star and a Nameless Ghoul. But I've seen people in the comments on ao3 saying they love how wholesome the story is and I want to keep it that way. It will stay wholesome anyways, but you know, Star is exploring these things now.

I'm thinking of creating like a "B-Side" as a separate work that would include the scenes as I've already got them with the smuttier stuff (its still a totally slow build for Star though, but it specifically describes her first moments of being turned on and how she deals with that in the moment for example) and I think I could rewrite those parts I've got into sort of PG Chapters and link in the summary to the "B-Side" which has those Chapters with the smut and exploration of sexuality and intimacy?

Like a choose-your-own-level-of-smut?

Anyone in the fic world got advice or ideas?

Or any readers with opinions?
