FYI, I have never been and never will be on Wattapad. So, if you see any of my stories posted there, just report that shit.

Someone definitely enjoyed getting some attention by posting Bend Around the Wind as their own work, for one. And we all know, stealing fics... bottom-feeder shit.

Fandom is a community where we share the love of stories and characters with each other, but people who just copy+paste and re-post fics or fanart for attention are parasites. Simple as that.

They want the nice comments that authors and artists get, but do not have what it takes to spend years working on their craft to become good at it. So they steal, or nowadays, shove prompts into an AI and then claim they wrote a "story".

These people have always been around, but sheesh, it just really hit me that the venn-diagram for the people who steal something as community-driven as fanfic and generate fic with LLMs is close to a circle.

It's like showing up with a whole bunch of tupperware to a party, start shovelling the food everyone brought into it, then saying "Look at the food I cooked! Aren't I great?"

p.s. gen AI scrapers is the reason my Ao3 had to be locked down to users only, but with it still being on FF.net and LJ, I'm sure it got scraped plenty.

P.s.s the fact that wattapad does not allow you to contact the user is wild. And you can only report stolen work with an "official" dmca request (as if everyone is usamerican), which needs my full legal name and address to do. Something I would never trust a shitty page like wattapad with.

These are stolen fanfics currently available on amazon for purchase from some blind publishing asshole that's blatantly stealing fanfics and not even changing the title or the summary. Does anybody know who's fic these are?

GOOGLE YOUR FICS

In the past couple of months I've found the entirety of Leo Inter Serpentes has been stolen and reposted on Wattpad and Scribd. Wattpad was great when I report the theft, and took them all down within like twelve hours. 10/10 for the complaints staff at Wattpad Still waiting for Scribd to even acknowledge my report, let alone do anything about it. Their entire site seems to be riddled with stolen fics as well as stolen published works. They also monetise it, so probably breaking a few fair use laws with that one So please, please search your fics to see if they've been reposted anywhere. And maybe consider locking your AO3 fics to members only, in the hopes that that might at least minimise the chances of them being stolen

Someone has stolen my friend's work on ao3 and reposted it as their own work for a different ship. They did not credit the original author AT ALL. And they are ofc moderating the comments.

What can we do to get the work taken down? Or even contact the thief?

FIC THEFT FIC THEFT PLEASE REPORT

PLEASE IF YOU HAVE A WATTPAD ACCOUNT, REPORT THIS USER!!!! Their account is FILLED with works stolen from AO3 and FFN!!!

I am livid rn, as the author of a fic I fell head over heels in love with and have been so excited to see finished (it's literally 3 CHAPTERS FROM BEING COMPLETED) just posted an update on said fic stating that they would no longer be updating their work until the stolen copy was taken down, as learning their hard work of 5 YEARS was stolen has greatly upset them, and having something amazing ruined for ALL of us by one selfish, trashy person is INFURIATING. I individually reported every fic I personally recognized, and then the entire account, hopefully if enough reports roll in, something will be done!

The screenshots below are of all the fics I know, either from having read them or having seen them while scrolling for new fics to read.

Well… we did it!!

I know for a fact that none of us gave them permission to post our fics. Why would we let someone else benefit off of all our hard work? It's hard enough getting traction on fics as it is.

I guess I'll have to keep an eye out for "Sammy Thomspoon" 🙄

I will now be locking my fics on Archive Of Our Own. People are feeding FanFiction through Chat GPT in order to get an ending to a Fic.

This is nothing but theft, entitlement, and laziness. If you want an ending so bad, write it yourself.

So wattpad has "made a contract" (been sold) with Viacom (Paramount Plus this time) and they've decided to "mine" (steal) over 100+ stories from there in order to "adapt" them to OG series in order to appeal the Gen z and Millennial audiences, without giving credits or part of the series revenues to the authors...

I'll have to check if I have something posted there from when I was 14 y.o. And remove it fast. If I'm not gonna get at least 80% of the revenue made with my concepts and fanfics, then I don't want to support this trash idea.

And also, most of the popular stories there are teens being sold as sex slaves to one direction members, romanticizing abuse like the killing-stalking fics... As fanfics, I have no problem with those, but we know what happened with After, The kissing booth, etc. They're not going to be accepted by the non-fandom/normie demographic.

But what irks me the most is the authors getting jack shit and not being able to stop the scumbags at wattpad from stealing their stories unless they delete them, and I'm not sure if even doing that will save them from theft.

If Paramount Plus wanted to have more into their streaming servicies that wasn't only half-baked Star Trek shows, they should've thought of that before launching a streaming service. Fuck you.
