Ahh, Fanfic Writer Appreciation Day!
What a chance to say one more time how much I appreciate GO Fandom in general and it’s Writers in particular :) I spent almost half a year with Ineffable Husbands by now and I’m so excited about the sheer amount of fanworks and the incredible treasures you inevitably find along the way!
So I decided to put a little Good Omens Fic Rec list of the absolutely BEST stories I’ve managed to find and read so far. I know that for people who’ve been in this fandom for some time it’d probably be no news but I’d be happy if everyone who starts to look up Aziraphale/Crowley fanfics reads these amazing stories – they absolutely deserve all the attention!
Even though Russian GO fandom is relatively small, there are some really good stories too, so I decided to make a little Russian Edition Fic Rec as well for your interest.
So here we go. This is all Aziraphale/Crowley and limited to one story from an author, though you definitely shouldn’t stop there – check their others fanfics too! Watch out for the ratings.
1. First story I read in this fandom and that will now stays my all-time favorite Good Omens fanfic (or just favourite fanfic regardless of fandom?) - A Memory of Eden by @improbabledreams900. Which is first part of a series Eden!verse , an EPIC 300K+ series, a h e a r t b r e a k i n g (and heart-mending!) in the most delicious way series, with incredibly detailed and thought-out plot, unanticipated turns, slow burn, asexual relationship and Aziraphale and Crowley you w a n t to emphatise with. I want to have it printed in hardback. (And there is even a Russian translation in progress! Here) Even talking about this story made me want to go and reread it right now. Or some of improbabledreams900’s other “smaller” (if you may say so about multichapters) but just as excellent stories.
2. Farsighted series by @maniacalmole. It was hard to choose which story from maniacalmole to recommend, because they are all so different: long plotty ones, short sweet and funny, AU and canon compliant… This one stands out for me because it starts in Eden, and I’m a sucker for the versions of Angel and Demon’s first meeting. And this take on it is so r i g h t… Crowley’s point of view done brilliantly. From the start till the end it’s an engaging, a bit sad, funny, thoroughly enjoyable story. And ahh, their dialogues at the end!
3. Five Times Crowley Wanted Aziraphale and it’s kind of a remix kind of a continuation Five Times Aziraphale Wanted Crowley (The One More Night Remix) by Mitsuhachi. The first one is done from Crowley’s point of view and explores asexual relationship the other – from Aziraphale’s and is decidedly not asexual :D They require to be read together and in this exact order – they resonate beautifully. And it’s another one of my favourite themes – historical mosaic pieces from their past.
4. One step at a time (en français - Un pas après l'autre) by @sous-le-saule and @lunasong365 I wish I’d be able to appreciate it properly in the sous-le-saule’s native language but the English text reads beautifully too – you almost see pictures with a soft lighting. Beautifully sad and sweet and incredibly gentle exploration of their relationship.
5. Prologue to the most recent printing of Good Omens: An open letter by @macdicilla Hilarious :D And I could actually hear Neil’s voice. Brilliant!
6. Gossamer Witnesses: A Compilation by EeveebethFejvu A beautiful kaleidoscopic collection of short stories.
7. Without Creativity by htebazytook A progress of Aziraphale and Crowley’s relationship through the history – from the funny and philosophical banter in the beginning to the incredibly h o t ending :D
8. The Revenge of The Houseplants by H.J. Bender Revengeful Hastur, crack plot, unbelievably funny sarcastic Crowley and Aziraphale and I absolutely loved the Alice’s story in sidenotes :D
That’s it for now. Once again many-many thanks to all the talented authors who made my experience in this fandom so enjoyable :) Keep up your amazing work and know that you are really appreciated <3
