I attended the Roots and Branches concert held in Halifax, NS within the Storytellers of Canada conference. I was really blessed to have met the Acadian presenters, felt like talking to my own family. There were also African Nova Scotians, Mi’kmaq, and Scots Gaelic performers!

For getting involved, here’s the website for Storytellers of Canada, where you can meet conteurs from various cultures across the country, attend workshops, conferences, and network!

I also signed up for fiddle lessons through The Tune Room, to get my feet wet. It looks like a very affordable option, and flexible with my work schedule!

Went to a free violin lesson, got heartened that I was in fact playing in tune, just needed to unclench every muscle I used lol. And discovered corners of Dartmouth that enchanted me. Also, I fell in love with the teacher’s violin. Look at it! The pegs!!! It is a beauty! Thankful I found my beginner violin at Value Village though..

I'm currently having a conversation with Ross Holmes (the fiddler/guitar player that accompanies Mumford & Sons on their tours) about what it's like to play the fiddle, and he has given me so much good advice about learning the instrument.  He's also genuinely interested in who I'm going to go to and where I can find a good fiddle.  This is almost the coolest thing that's ever happened to me!!
