Transformer coil rigged as “microphone”. Searching the house for interesting electric noise. Devices, by order of appearance:

1 - 3: Wireless burglar alarm, base station 4: Digital clock of a coffee machine 5. Hair dryer powering up, running, shutting down (particularly fond of this one) 6. WLAN repeater 7. WLAN router 8. Vive lighthouse

Bonus: “Snow” by Chemical Brothers, played on a regular speaker, and picked up with the coil. No regular microphone used. Doesnt sound like much, but its interesting, I guess.

BELLS – COLIN STEVENS 1. DAWN – This is an impression of an imaginary bell installation that has been built to be played by the breeze. The pitch of the various bells and gongs has been carefully chosen but their deployment throughout the piece is governed by an algorithm so as to create a 'chance music' illusion. 2. DREAM – If the desired effect of 'Dawn' was to sound as natural as possible, then the opposite can be said of 'Dream' where a fantasy soundscape is the aim. Seperate algorithms are used for the bells and the background. An additional background wash has been applied plus various filter effects. 3. CYCLE – This work has been written in Finale and then transferred as a multitrack midi file to my DAW. It is inspired by many hours of playing my way through the Arban Cornet Method (on the Tuba), in my younger years. In the 'Arban' the various studies are played in various keys sequentially. Here a two minute composition is repeated in twelve various keys using the 'cycle of fifths' with the addition of plainsong and sampled bells.
