Happy Saturday! “Ada” 2018 On display @chicagobotanic until Oct. 28th. This beautiful orchid was truly a Big Bloom from @zezeflowers 💗 before I even photographed it! #bigbloomsorchids #paullangebigblooms . . This Big Blooms Orchid honors Ada Lovelace, (1815-1852) an English mathematician, known as the world’s first computer programmer for her work on Charles Babbage's design for the Analytical Engine. Her notes include the first coded algorithm for the calculation of Bernoulli numbers that would program the the machine. "Red Oaks, Ice Storm," 2008, from my Disturbed Paradise Series. Since I began working on my "Fifty Acres" project, eleven years ago, I've seen a lot of extreme swings in our Hudson Valley winters. From the 2007 blizzard, to the ice storm in December, 2008, and the freak snow storm in October, 2011... and the year we were introduced to the polar vortex, followed by the last 2 winters with almost no snow and very mild temperatures. #paullange #fiftyacresproject #disturbedparadise #hudsonvalley #winter
