Here is the first big figure I carved. I started doing them like this with  ‘half heads’ as it better allowed me to keep the natural shape of the stone and not impose too much with my plans. I had some good luck with this piece as when I did the final polish a line of fools gold revealed itself running through the eye. I called this piece ‘Pilgrim’ and it lead to series of pilgrim pieces some of which will be up soon.
