The moment she and the rest of her family finished their evening meal, Auriel slipped away from the table in search of her beloved Grey Ghost, intent on taking him out for a evening flight before the darkness of night fully settled over the island. She didn't see him when she first entered the Dragonpit and even the dragonkeepers seemed uncertain of his whereabouts. Despite having been claimed, Grey Ghost remained as elusive as ever, forever finding quiet corners in which to hide himself away from men and dragons alike, but Auriel always managed to find him eventually.
A fond smile spread across her lips when she caught sight of him from the corner of her eye. His pale head was buried almost entirely beneath a mound of loose earth. Almost as if he hid his face and covered himself with his wings, he might just make himself disappear as though he was in the clouds.
Gathering her skirts beneath her, Auriel lowered herself to the ground and sat cross-legged before him. She reached out carefully, resting her palm against the cool scales of his snout.
“Vermithor? He is quite large. I can understand why you may find him intimidating.” She asked through their bond, her thumb moving in soothing circles. “You needn't remain in the Dragonpit if you do not wish to, nūdys. You may come and go as you please. I will always find you.”
