Tonight I was in a terrible, no good, very bad mood, so I wanted to watch something I've been meaning to for a while now!! I wanted to see The Legend of Ochi when it first came out in theatres because I am like the world's biggest Finn Wolfhard fan... Unfortunately, I never got to see him on the big screen.
Celebrity fixations aside, oh my gosh!!
At first, I planned to have the movie playing in the background while I got some other work done. About 10 minutes in, my project had been forgotten, and I was totally enthralled.
It's pretty late, so I'll keep my review short to avoid staying up any longer...

I cannot overstate how obsessed I am with the environments and general artistic direction of this movie!!!! HOLY SHIT!!!! Every visual detail feels intentional and cohesive. From the incredible practical effects and puppeteering to the color grading and ESPECIALLY the environmental design, it was all pretty breathtaking.
I'm sure a lot of artists can relate to the feeling that comes with finishing a special film. Your heart's racing and oozing with inspiration and an itch to draw or paint... You'll definitely get this feeling after this one!!
Additionally, the soundtrack is genuinely one of the best I've heard out of the movies I've seen this year. To accompany the picture-book-esque visuals is the most fitting whimsical score!! The combination of the two really makes you feel like you've stepped foot into a fairytale! The sound reminded me a lot of scores from Disney's Renaissance period. As I mentioned earlier, I started watching in such a horrible mood, but the movie's whimsy made it very hard to stay upset.
Baby Ochi was also very cute... that definitely helped!!

All in all, the movie was such a heartwarming watch. It set out what it wanted to do and then some with it's stunning visuals and refreshing practical work. I'd love to see more of this beautiful Ochi world!!!
