I both love and hate potlucks; I can never bring myself to serve anything but the best I can to anyone I cook for, including the office. Potlucks end up being very fun for me, but also somewhat expensive. Historically, I am also often appalled by the apathetic attitude some people take to it, and also appalled by what some people bring (or don't bring). Perhaps it's just me, but I take food very seriously, both from a dietary and nutritional standpoint as well as artistically and culinarily. My boss assigned me to bring fine cheeses, fine crackers, and fine meats; and knowing me, I have to do it at least somewhat properly. My roommate said I should just buy cheap cheese; I was horrified. I have too much self respect to do that. I have hunted down the finest cheeses I can get locally, choosing carefully and thoughtfully. Nineteen different cheeses, four kinds of charcuterie, a dozen kinds of crackers, and a couple jellies/jams to round it out, all on cheese boards. Part of me is still dissatisfied (decided to not do nuts or fruits as accompaniments) but I have to keep my audience in mind, and my wallet is already hemorrhaging. (Please don't ask me how much this cost; I'm trying to pretend it didn't happen.). Potluck is Tuesday. Hours of planning and cheese shopping over. Labels made (including tea, coffee, beer warnings to attempt to assist Mormon coworkers as they are not allowed to consume any of those). Not all is pictured. Still deciding cheese plate structure; a local cheese board, a dessert cheese board (with fig/almond cake to be the nut/fruit accompaniment), charcuterie board, cracker platter, and a few more cheese boards I'm still tweaking as to what cheese to include with what. Spencer...some days, I hate you. #cheese #finecheese #fromage #charcuterie #crackers #culinaryarts #foodie #food #cooking #cheeseboard #cheeseplatter #entertaining #finedining
