Thereās a small but really spectacular William Morris exhibit currently on display at the Cleveland Museum of Art. Itās a great chance to see some textiles and a nice selection of Kelmscott Press books in their original bindings. #artsandcraftsmovement #letterpress #finepress #williammorris #clevelandmuseumofart #bookbinding #bookstagram (at The Cleveland Museum of Art)
We love the calligraphic half-title and the linoleum prints that adorn this 1954 edition of Aesop's Fables. The design and linoleum blocks are by Antonio Frasconi, the book was printed by Joseph Blumenthal at The Spiral Press, New York, and the publisher was the Museum of Modern Art. Quite a collaboration!ā ā #art #design #calligraphy #lettering #handlettering #cursive #linocut #printmaking #frasconi #finepress #rarebooks #specialcollections #universityofmissouri #mizzou #libraries #librariesofinstagram #ifttt

Cataloging an unusual collection of Purgatory Press ephemera and came across this particularly wonderful bit of work. Though relatively early (1986), there is no question about whoās work it is. Signed by both @timothyelyartist and letterpresstigitation master Dikko Faust of @purgatorypiepress fame. 268 of 300. Timās work, even on a tiny scale, never fails to amaze me. #timothyely #dikkofaust #purgatorypiepress #postcard #finepress #printart https://www.instagram.com/p/CS7XwMGLOcz/?utm_medium=tumblr
As Friday afternoons go, I canāt complain about spending this one overlooking the ocean and with a cool sea breeze blowing gently while cataloging a unique copy of Leonard Baskinās Mokomaki which includes, among other bits, 14 extra prints of the various images printed on vellum. He did four (five, really) of theseā¦Iāve had the profound luck of having 3 of them at one time or another. I really do love what I do. #leonardbaskin #printingonvellum #mokomaki #finepress #fineprinting https://www.instagram.com/p/CRriDF_sAEV/?utm_medium=tumblr
āConnections between words within a phrase are usually represented in linguistics as abstract branching diagrams. In the physical world, there are numerous natural systems that have branching forms, one of which I used as the model for this project. In 1628, William Harvey published a landmark text concerning the circulation of blood in the body, Exercitatio anatomica de motu cordis et sanguinis in animalibus, usually called simply De motu cordis. Excerpts from this text are diagrammed here in forms suggestive both of blood vessels and of the syntax underlying the words that Harvey used to describe them: In the body all the parts are nourished, cherished, and quickned [sic] with blood, which is warm, perfect, vaporous, full of spirit, and that I may so say, alimentative. / It doth go round, is returned, thrust forward, and comes back from the heart into the extremities, and from thence into the heart again, and so makes as it were a circular motion.ā [artist statement] @sarahmhulsey ās An Anatomical Exercise.
