Looking Past the “Shithole”
Okay, look, saying “shithole” is by and large not the problem in Trump’s message.
He could say “Why are we accepting these people from Narnia” and it would be just as bad.
Because the operative word there isn’t “shithole,” but rather, “Why.”
“Why are we accepting these people from shithole countries?”
He’s saying that, if your country is a “shithole,” you must provide extra justification for why you are in America.
That’s horrible. That’s tantamount to explicit racism.
Trump is essentially saying that if you come from a “shithole” (which again, the word wouldn’t matter even if he said ‘third-world’ or ‘country south of the equator’), you have to give more of a reason for your presence in America. And take a wild guess where those shitholes are?
He’s saying that America is for white people. Don’t focus on how beautiful Haiti is or how Uganda made Who Killed Captain Alex. Call him out for the blatant white supremacy he’s advocating for.
