Prompt 17 - Fingerprint
@wolfstarmicrofic May 17, word count 322
Sirius was sick of waiting. He’d done his waiting. 12 years of it in Azkaban and two on the run. Now he was stuck waiting in bloody Grimmauld Place, and he fucking hated it.
Remus had been gone for two weeks. He was under orders not to make contact with anyone from the Order unless it was life or death. Sirius supposed no news was good news, but he missed him something rotten.
He’d grown used to having Remus around; those early days of the reformed Order had been amazing. He’d felt so involved. He’d spent hours bending Remus’s ear in bed about all the ways they’d be helping out this time. Sirius was ready to fight. But then Dumbledore had forbidden him from leaving number twelve, and that put paid to that new adventure.
Sirius pressed a finger against the glass of his bedroom window, leaving behind a lonely fingerprint. He did it again, leaving another fingerprint beside the first one. He did it over and over until there was a pretty good drawing of a dragon left behind on the glass. He was just finishing off the left wing when a crack of apparition startled him. He peered through the marked glass and couldn’t believe his eyes.
Sirius tore through the house, ignoring the ear-splitting screeching of his mother’s portrait and flung himself into Remus’s arms when he opened the door.
“Hi, Pads,” Remus chuckled into his hair, waddling them deeper into the hallway so he could shut the door as Molly Weasley wrestled the curtains back over his mother’s portrait, silencing her. “I missed you, too,” Remus whispered into his ear. “Come on,” Remus said, eyeing up a scowling Molly. “I desperately need a bath, and then I can tell you everything that happened.”
They walked up the stairs together and stayed up there until well into the next morning, only emerging when Remus’s emergency chocolate supply was depleted.
