"I have a bad feeling about this."
∰ – ;; the near mechanical stomping of the stormtroopers that escorted them put fei on edge – feeling out of place on this side of the raid, for once. feeling unsure, hesitant, the pantoran subtly looked to her master for… something. reassurance, she did not often receive from him, but they both knew it was rarely what she needed. she would take what she could get, given her situation; but she was not acknowledged, and she could sense why. a p p r e h e n s i o n.
it was her first time in the field, so to say; the order (what was left of it) was taking back what it had lost. she understood the importance of that goal, and she was in full agreement. there was, in truth, very little left of their organization. their base had been destroyed – that, in the opinions of her superiors, was what needed fixing first. the destroyer, a remnant of what once was, had arrived at what they were assured was an e x t e r m i n a t e d planet, and a party had been sent to evaluate it. determine its potential. that was a dressed up way to say they were desperate to recover from the blow they’d been dealt, and that was no secret.
this party was supposed to consist of many more members than it now did; her master had lowered their numbers, stating with full confidence that they simply wouldn’t be needed. the reason for fei’s own presence, she wasn’t entirely sure of. partially, she assumed, to test her; as were most things since she had arrived. and partially, she guessed, because there was some formal obligation to bring your apprentice to every single shitfest when you know they’re anxious and a little bit scared. breathing out a sigh, she prepared herself to exit the destroyer, before his mumbled words stole back her attention.
“so do i,” she replied simply, turning her gaze forwards once more as they landed, and they were lowered to the ground on their destination. taking in a deep breath, she squared her shoulders, unsure of what she was feeling but intent on eliminating it. he had not given her reassurance, but he had a tendency to know better than her what she needed.
