Hi Zi! I wanted to send you a quick note in response to that ask you posted. You are incredibly gracious to respond the way you did. I would have deleted the ask.
You take the time you need. Take care of your family, I’m sorry you’re going through this. Take care of yourself. Take care to study because that degree will take you so far in life, and it sounds like your field of study is a difficult one. Please don’t feel guilty for having the strength and courage to do what’s best for you.
One month from now, one year from now, 10 years from now, the story will be there when you’re ready to return to it. The entitled anons will be gone, and those that actually care about you and your writing will still be there.
I only found your IF recently and it sounds like you’ve been away for a time and returned, and I think that speaks volumes to the passion you have for your craft. It shows your commitment and I appreciate you giving us this story in the midst of everything else you have going on. Thank you for that! Thank you for considering us when you really have no obligation to.
I’m glad I found your work and I look forward to more, whenever that may be! Be kind to yourself and take care!
Hi, Fir! You honestly feel like a safe pace, and I'm so glad to have found your IF as soon as I did when I returned. You were one of the writers out there who gave me inspiration to write again despite my lack of time! I honestly wanted to delete the ask too—I was never one for confrontations. But I thought, yeah, people need assurance too, so I answered.
Thank you for supporting me! My parent is, thankfully, steadily recovring, but is still under physical therapy so it will take a few more days before I could regain all my focus back. Also, I love my program as I chose it specifically to be a better writer. Sure, one would think creative writing would be a better choice, but as someone who writes and values being able to create and convey great characters, anthropology gives me better access to what I need. Observation and people-watching gives a lot of practice when it comes to writing, apparently! It's so fascinating to learn why people act like this and live the way they do through the lens of their positionality and origin.
I really appreciate your kind words, Fir. Kind people like you make me want to keep going! I swear, I love this story of mine. It's a project I started 5 years ago and published it on a whim when I was just a teenager. The IF community was incredibly small back then and the big writers you know now were all considered big before for having hit at least 1k followers, but now that's a number that seems small considering the amount of people within this community now. I have seen stories end and stories that started but never got to continue, but rest assured that my story will meet its ending. I have lots of plans for it, and out of all my stories, Abyssal Depths is my first love. So yeah, not gonna abandon this one. ;>
Thank you so much again, Fir! I hope all the good things go your way, and good luck with Cantata! I can't wait to read more. ♡♡
