Can you use a fireplace if the firebox has cracks?

The important detail: “firebox crack” can describe very different conditions. A fine hairline crack in some factory-built refractory panels may be normal. Crumbling refractory, missing mortar, loose firebrick, large gaps, or exposed metal are different warning signs.
