Firelight Jayce AU: the prelude
Benzo's new worker, Jayce. Few people know where he came from. Most know him as the guy who can fix up anything mechanical.
Run past the rivers, run past all the light Feel it crashing and burning, 'til it all collides Strike a match, lit the fire, shining up the sky
Firelight Jayce AU: the interlude pt. 1
Ekko and Jayce, in the aftermath. Finding and building their home.
Firelight Jayce AU: character design.
An unnecessarily detailed break down of Jayce's look. I like him a lot.
Close ups:
What if the student that sabotaged Jayce got exposed and the council decided that Jayce need to come back to Piltover? Maybe they sent Caitlyn and she realized that Jayce want do nothing with Piltover? I really love your au ❤💗
Oh, so! Jayce is a very wanted man. Piltover didn't stay ignorant of the connection between the new form of technology in Zaun and the academy student they exiled years ago that promised exactly that. They've been looking for Jayce.
But Zaun is protective of their own, Firelights doubly so. Not to mention the years Jayce and Ekko spent in hiding and on the run. They've perfected the act of escaping and disappearing. No one is getting to them, not unless they allow it.
Caitlyn is simultaneously vindictively gleeful and incandescently angry. Look at Cassandra, her displeased frown when the man she condemned years ago refused to show himself. Look at Ximena, her tired, hopeful eyes as she heard more and more of magic in Zaun.
She understands why Jayce wouldn't want to return, but she doesn't get how he could leave his mother behind.
(How he could leave Sprout behind.)
Some angst for thought for the firelight au: Jayce gets shot by Jinx during an encounter (whether its like in the show where they're destroying a shipment of shimmer or something else) and Ekko getting reminded of seeing Benzo bleeding out after getting hit by Deckard. And he tries to keep it together, but he is panicking because his family is once again bleeding out in front of him.
Also the sad parallel of Silco being responsible for Benzo's death (Ekko's dad) and now Jinx, who used to be his friend, has injured the last person from his life before everything went wrong.
I imagine Ekko staying with Jayce while he recovers (taking the lighter route of Jayce being okay here) and holding his hand like he's scared that he'll disappear if he lets go. Like how he hugged Vi one last time before she left and then she was gone too. So, he holds onto Jayce like he'll disappear too if he lets go.
Well, yes, that is indeed angst for thought.
I had an art idea of Ekko sitting next to Jayce’s bedside after a bad raid, but I haven’t considered Jinx being the one to put him there. Oh, that’d hurt, exquisitely. More trauma for our poor boy.
Thank you very much for the kick to the heart, I needed it. 😭❤️
I'm imagining the contrast between Jayce's sibling relationship with Caitlyn and his sibling relationship with Ekko.
I wonder if Caitlyn would feel replaced at all by Ekko? Like Jayce went and got a new younger sibling and left her behind.
But I feel like Ekko would be quite protective of Jayce from Caitlyn, especially if it seems like she wants to take him away. Just the potential character conflict and all.
Oh, yes! That’s exactly what I’m going for. Caitlyn and Ekko have issues, and they both fear losing Jayce in some form.
Caitlyn, because she already lost him once. Because her family didn’t protect Jayce and she was cut off as a result. Abandoned.
Ekko, because Jayce was all he had for a long time. Because Jayce was from Pitlover first and could go back if he wanted to.
It’s a major point of contention, and their interactions get a lot more personal than in canon.
Question about your firelight jayce AU : what's going on with viktor and heimerdinger? Are they still Dean and Dean assistant in this Au?
Also, how is the political situation between zaun and piltover? Is shimmer still a huge problem, like how it was in Canon? Is the gap between zaun and piltover still as big even though there is presumably no hextech in this AU?
Still not sure, actually. I wanted to draw a bit of a parallel between Viktor in Piltover and Jayce in Zaun, and it could go in a few directions. I haven't decided on a definite answer yet. Viktor won't stay an assistant though, no matter the AU.
The gap is smaller! It's half of what compelled me to make the AU. Everything Jayce could have offered Piltover, Zaun gets instead. The next installment of the series is about that, actually. Hextech inventions meant for Zaun, first and foremost.
Oh, and Shimmer is still a problem. Not as widespread as canon, but still. Silco is crafty and Singed doesn't practice the scientific ethos.
Council: Come back to Piltover and forget what happend seven years ago. We need your inventions.
Jayce: Fuck you
Scar: *angry stare at the council*
Ekko: *shows middle fingers*
