When he came back with a mug of his own, he sat on the floor in front of the fire, enjoying the warmth. "Thanks for starting a fire," he said as he looked at her. He smiled at how cozy she looked in her knitted sweater, leggings, and thick wool socks. She never failed to make his heart flutter when he looked at her. He couldn't figure out why they hadn't ever tried to be more than friends. They got along so well, never ran out of things to talk about and enjoyed each other's company.
"Of course! I mean, you keep your house at like 10 degrees, I had to do something to warm up!" she joked with him as she laughed.
"Hey, 68 degrees is the most energy efficient."
"Maybe for a corpse, but I need heat to survive this terrible blizzard!" She glanced outside, it had stopped snowing. "I think my toes may fall off they're so cold."
"Oh no! Here, let me warm them up!" He set his mug on the coffee table and scooted closer to her and began to take her socks off. Maria giggled as he pretended her feet stank. She shoved his shoulder and wiggled her toes, holding her feet out to be rubbed. When he hesitated she batted her lashed and stuck her bottom lip out in a ridiculous pout. He laughed and started massaging her feet.
Maria's head lulled back as she enjoyed his strong, warm hands working all the tired and sore spots in her feet. She sighed, wishing it would never end, but she knew it would soon as she had a family dinner to get to. "That feels so good, Randy," she hummed with her eyes closed and her head rested on the back of his couch.
