I don't get people wanting the og cast of Until Dawn back. Like not only would that mean a definitive ending would have to be chosen but it would also fundamentally change the first game too. And with how much older the actors are now plus what the characters have been through it would be even weirder to have them acting like stupid horny young adults which I think is part of the charm in these kind of slasher stories
Not to say a direct continuation couldn't be interesting but the game said all it needed to about the Wendigos and the Washingtons and it would be weird to see that cast again in a completely new context without the backdrop of the Washington's and Josh's trauma and the vibe would still be completely different from the og game despite more familiar faces
Which goes into my next point of defining which ending is Canon. If choosing the best ending do you only choose the best ending from the base game or the one where Josh can be saved in Ballistic Moons version. Because yes I'd say the remake is largely inferior and taking away fixed cameras in most walking segments took away part of the atmosphere but I liked how it added context to the prank. I liked how you could actually save Josh. I liked most of the new models and how it had less of an uncanny valley waxy look compared to the original and I'd bet money the people who hated the remake and said there was nothing of value in it would back pedal so quickly if it meant having Josh alive in a direct sequel
And so what if Supermassive isn't making it? It's not the same company it was over twenty years ago its not the same people. Having them on board wouldn't necessarily mean this project is that much more likely to succeed. I think Supermassive did great with Directive 8020 but not all their games have been home runs.
The Devil In Me launched abysmally and both it and House of Ashes (despite how much I adore it) suffers from really bad plot armor with most of the characters until you reach the final third of the respective game. Little Hope has terrible replayability once you know the twist and some of the most disappointing endings. The Quarry was really fun but the way they changed how qtes worked in it made them pretty much impossible to fail and really boring. And lastly as much as I like Directive 8020 and think it's a step in the right direction it still had dialogue moments that brought me back to the stilted cringey writing of Man of Medan and weird eye movements with characters seeming not to look directly at one another. Again I think Directive 8020 is far more of an improvement but that doesn't mean it's perfect and the original Until Dawn was far from perfect too
We no longer have telltale. Quantic Dream is being forced to make what looks like a glorified mobile game. Neither of these studios or their games are perfect but I love choice based cinematic games that make me feel like I'm playing out a movie or show and I want more studios to take a crack at these kinds of games. I don't want to have to wait for however long the next Dark Pictures game will take to come out. I don't want to sit hear twiddling my thumbs hoping Star Wars Eclipse isn't canceled or that maybe the Wolf Among Us 2 isn't also probably dead in the water. I want Supermassive to have some real competition. I want to see other attempts at this kind of game especially within a horror scope and I'm truly excited for UNTIL DAWN 2

Until Dawn 2 Revealed at PlayStation State of Play, Launching 2027 on PS5
Sony pulled the curtain back on Until Dawn 2 during its June 2, 2026, State of Play broadcast, ending years of speculation with a roughly two-minute reveal trailer that confirmed the sequel is coming exclusively to PlayStation 5 in 2027. The project is a standalone entry, built from the ground up by Firesprite Games, the Liverpool-based first-party studio best known for Horizon: Call of the…
