And I can’t even firebend anymore–” her voice cracked. Another sob– and this time, Azula couldn’t stop herself. She screwed her eyes shut and finally, allowed herself to weep.

SHE SHOULD’VE KNOWN BETTER; she can’t remember if she told him or if through his own machinations he’d dug up the info some how there was no telling, but she still should’ve expected this. She hates to be caught off guard, though the humble packaging of the present sets both her mind and soul at ease. There were never any sort of expectations between them, both free to make whatever mistakes they saw fit; but with that came freedom, something she’d be otherwise lost without. ❝ Oh boy, I hope it’s socks, ❞ she chuckles, attempting to work the string loose with one hand as she sets her drink down. What she finds is something far more meaningful than anticipated, stealing a glance back to him before examining it further as he reassures her of its condition. Thumb toggles the well - worn play button and the cassette whirrs to life, a tinny Lindsey Buckingham calling out from the headphones in her lap. I know there’s nothing to say, someone has taken my place . . . She cracks a grin, turning the tape off. ❝ I love it, a lot. I can’t believe you even remembered in the first place. ❞ She picks the device up now, the egregious yellow shade lighting up the entire room, gasping with callow excitement as she looks closer.
