Frenzy go separated from the decepticons a century or two (or twelve) ago during a fight tracking down a cybertronian artifact and having a space bridge close on him and Rumble. Being torn in half and dumped on some dirtball of a planet was actually the better part of the deal, between his and Rumble's fates.

Maybe it was a good thing ol' Shockwave managed to get his paws on them experiment on them. Having a spark compatible with just about anything it can be shoved into makes for a pretty decent survival skill. Especially helps when some organic digs out your half-dead frame and decides to take you home to play doctor.

When you accidentally teach a baby alien the most basic version your native tongue bc that's all you can put together right now and your kind of running on fumes with an untreated concussion.

It takes a few years, but he gets put back together.

- Megatron knows what is about to go down, but he can't be arsed to stop it - Soundwave also knows what is about to go down, but he's too late to stop it - Rumble egged his brother on - Frenzy did not need egging on, he was gonna do it anyway - Thundercracker wished he was in the aisle seat so he could just leave - Skywarp knows what's about to happen and he is eagerly awaiting results - Starscream has no idea he's about to have energon poured over him. He will, without doubt, blow up I chose to not tidy this up for my own sanity lol
