Fates First Dragon Headcanons

I may be mentioning things I’ve already mentioned on this blog, but I’m attempting to get things a bit organized with my own headcanons.

Rainbow Sage

The Rainbow Sage is the de facto First Dragon, the father of the other eleven.

He’s known as the Dragon of Many Colors, the Rainbow Dragon, or the Father Dragon.

He “birthed” his children in a similar manner as to how Bond Units some to be.

Raijinto, Siegfried, Fujin Yumi, and Brynhildr were each made from his scales, while the Yato was made from his fang.

He is essentially Corrin and Lilith’s grandfather.

Anankos

Anankos was the first ‘born’ of his siblings, which is a part of the reason why he’s unable to die on his own. He’s unable to die simply because he has too much life in him, due to being born by the Rainbow Sage breathing life into water.

As a younger dragon, he looked similar to Corrin’s dragon form (which the Pellucid Crystal book might back up here and here). Age and life has not been kind to the dragon.

When his siblings started fighting amongst themselves, Anankos essentially to the third of the continent and relocated it into the void between realms (he basically said ‘fuck this shit I’m out’). This created Valla and the Bottomless Canyon but also crippled him.

The pendant passed through Valla’s royal family was made with a piece of his dragonstone and bathed in Cadros’ blood. This allows members of the royal family to perform the ritual. However, because it’s made from his dragonstone, the ritual barely works on Corrin and Kana.

He has the ability of foresight, however, it is untrustworthy as all hell.

As an amnesiac human Anankos has the face of any other Vallite man. But once his memories return to him, it’s pretty clear that this was only ever a glamour. Once the glamour is dropped his human face starts to look like his dragon face. Like this

Also, his eyes are gold. Corrin gets their eye color for Mikoto.

Moro

He’s the overall youngest of his siblings.

Yes, he’s technically Corrin and Lilith’s uncle.

The right side of his face, as human and dragon, is horribly scarred from when he was attacked by the Dawn Dragon in a fit of rage. The eyelid had been sealed shut for centuries.

It was this attack that caused Moro to follow Anankos’ example, say ‘fuck you all’ and take up residence in the Astral Realm, also called the Outrealm.

His dragon form resembles Falkor.

His home kingdom also serves as a sort of home base for the Anna’s. It’s rumored that his human lover was the original.

Because of the pointless war his brothers started, he wants nothing to do with them. But also recognizes that his niblings have nothing to do with what happened. Which is why he helps Lilith and Corrin.

The Others

The Dawn and Dusk Dragons could be seen as ‘twins.’ Sort of. They were ‘born’ twelve hours apart at dawn and dusk respectively.

Nestra and Izumo primarily worship the same dragon. She’s essentially the Muse of the Fates-verse. The Muse Dragon is a distant ancestor of Izana, and the only one confirmed to have mated with a human until Corrin was born. Corrin and Izana could be seen as distant cousins in that sense.

The Wolfskin and Kitsune worship the same dragon. He is likely called Fenris.

Fenris created the beaststones both peoples use as a means to help them communicate with humans.

The First Dragons Part 1

“Yuuri, Yuuri!” Yuuko cried. She was smiling, waving at Yuuri as she ran.

Their village was small, and there were few enough children that despite the gap in their ages, the two were close. Living beside each other had certainly contributed. Yuuri set his toys aside and greeted her with a grin.

“Happy birthday, Yuuri,” she said sweetly. “Are you doing anything fun tonight?”

“Mom is making me katsudon,” Yuuri hummed. “Oh, Yuuko, what’s got you so excited?”

Yuuko blinked and suddenly remembered what had gotten her running. “Oh right, come quick! There's a storyteller in my mom’s inn!” she said.

Yuuri cocked his head. “Huh? What do you mean?”

Yuuko huffed and dragged him to his feet. “Come on Yuuri, we have to find Takashi!”

Yuuri pouted. “Do we have to?”

“He's not so bad when you get to know him, Yuuri, I promise.”

Yuuri huffed a little but followed after her. Truthfully, he'd follow her anywhere. She was his best friend, and Yuuri might have been young, but six was plenty old to know who was a friend and who was not.

Takeshi was definitely not. He liked to knock Yuuri over when they skated on the frozen pond and tease Yuuri about having a girlfriend. But Yuuko was not Yuuri’s girlfriend. So embarrassing.

They found Takashi easily enough and hurried back to the inn run by Yuuko’s family.

A small crowd of people had gathered in the sitting room. In the heart of the thick of people, there was an older woman in pale blue robes, her grey hair pulled away from her eyes, her face set deeply with wrinkles and laugh lines. In her hands, she held a leatherbound book clasped shut with a metal lock. A key hung around her throat.

The other villagers parted, letting the small group of children sit in the front. The old woman smiled at them. “Welcome, children,” she said, not to the three of them, but to everyone in the room. “The world is full of many stories, more than any one mortal could ever hear. Some stories are small, and some are grand. Some of you may even forge stories of your own one day. But this is the grandest of them all.”

The Ancient Dragons: Scholars From The Stars

In the time before time, somewhere deep beyond the known boundaries of the abyss that overtook every inch of that which would become creation lurked many strange primordial beings of a cosmic persuasion. Beasts that lurked in the places behind stars and suns far far away. Creatures that seemed dwarfed only by the celestial titans that are the stars themselves. Of these beasts were the first dragons, great and powerful beasts that seemed perfectly in tune with the universe that came to be and drew them towards the world from the great beyond that lies past the sky above the sky. The dragons were incredibly intelligent beings that rivaled the likes of mortalkind in their cunning and ability to understand their physical and metaphysical surroundings, seeming to live partially in all plains of existence at once. The dragons were said to have come down from the stars on beams of powerful light, striking their talons onto the earth as they landed down like lightning bolts that crashed with fierce abandon upon the euclidian plains of earth. It was as if they had come like an armada to rule man yet many of the dragons would just as soon leave the earth, seeming to have only come down from the heavens to study what the gods had created on this plain before taking off in mass. But there remain to this day a number of the great celestial serpents as well as many of their queer artifacts of insurmountable power. Throughout the vast world must be sure thousands of items abandoned by the dragons upon their exodus to the far beyond. Some say they were subtly gifted to us while others claim it to be a curse of a great burden. kingdoms have risen and fallen over the centuries, built and razed with the powerful sorceries that could near fully unlock and yet scarcely harness the total unbridled potential of the epic Draconic artifacts. And what of the dragons themselves? It's unknown, truly, where they come from, only that it is a realm of territories on yet another great plain far beyond our reach in both a physical and metaphorical sense. Those that remain have influenced our world greatly and have even been rumored to have influenced individuals with their power. Some do claim that our mad first kind, Titus Vatigo, was led to power by a dragon who guided him to the wellspring of knowledge that was the Mouth Of Terabius. Furthermore, it was the consumption of a dragon's powerful blood that twisted the forms of a certain people in the lands far west of the Kurthesian Sea, creating Kobolds among a number of other reptilian people who live throughout the northern deserts and rocky wastelands west of them. It's said that just as many deities created the lands of the earth such as Centralia and the Strayas, so too did the mighty power of the first dragons raise the mystic lands of Koumtash from the deepest floors of the ever spanning oceans, populating them with all manner of truly alien beings in their own ill-fated attempt to overtake the arduous task of creation, a feat which even the gods had not perfected in all their glory and wisdom. With the might of their minds and inner voices, they brought the bottom of the ocean to the surface and used their own kind of alluvium filtered from the very essence of the sea goddess herself to create life in many shapes, some totally unrecognisable as relatives of things living in the rest of the world and others clearly reminiscent of animals and attributes of this reality. But this creation was not tended to for long as it was the last prominent remnant of a race of beings long gone now, their kind dwindling as of late, dying off to unknown elements of existing in our plain for very long or simply being killed off in their weakened, physical form. It would appear that the longer the dragons remained here, the weaker they'd become until they were simply long-lived beasts, devoid of the mental capacity they arrived with, left with only trained behaviors and instinct to guide them.

A Tale of Three Brothers

In ancient Isila the Dragon of Many Colors sired eleven children. Of these children, three others were renowned as gods. Yoake, who rose with the sun, Opacare, who rose with the moon, and Anankos, the eldest, who sought balance between his day and night brothers.

So different were Yoake and Opacare that they clashed often. But, for the sake of the people who loved them, and their family they tried to keep the peace between them. Until tensions between the two were at it’s peek. Their conflicting nature and waning sanities brought about a civil war amongst dragonkind and mankind. The brothers recruited their younger siblings, four each, to fight along side them. Caught between their conflicts were the humans who worshiped them.

To give humanity a fighting chance, the Dragon of Many Colors forged four powerful weapons and bestowed them onto humanity. Rajinto and Siegfried, said to embody the power of Yoake and Opacare. And the Fujin Yumi and Brynhildr, modeled after the weapons favored by the Flight, the Dragon’s personal soldiers who sought peace as much as he did. The Dragon had hoped these weapons would keep humanity safe… but instead they gave humanity a chance to fight alongside their dragons.

After years of fighting, Anankos decided he would not side with either brother. Instead he took the humans looking to stay away from the conflict and cultivated a land right between his brother’s territories. These humans became the founding families of Valla. There, Anankos would bestow dragon’s blood to his closest friend, Cadros the first King of Valla, blessing him and his bloodline the ability to manipulate the water and terrain.

In Isila Yoake and Opacare’s territories formed the kingdoms of Nohr and Hoshido, where the wielders of Siegfried and Rajinto became the first kings. Disaster struck when the usually calm Opacare, in a fit of madness ravaged his own land, creating what would later become Demon’s Falls. Hot-blooded Yoake did was not fairing much better when he struck his youngest brother, Moro, over a petty dispute.

Neither knew why they were fighting the other anymore, neither did the people who worshiped them. But both knew their mental states had begun to deteriorate for a while. What was worse, was that their people were looking for an excuse to fight now. The dragon’s war was so far out of their hands now. The two dragons went down to the land of Valla to see their elder brother and peace between them was made. The lakes within the borders of Hoshido and Nohr’s borders served as proof of this, as these lakes contained portals that could lead straight to Valla.

Before passing on as spirits, both Yaoke and Opacare, known as the Dawn and Dusk dragon’s respectively, gifted the kings dragon’s bloods. Shirasagi’s Castle Town dedicated their central plaza to Yoake. And Opacare’s remains became Fort Dragonfall. Neither dragon would every have to worry about their minds becoming so far lost to themselves.

Hardly five years passed before the Dragon of Many Colors forged a fifth weapon, said to slay gods. Many believed that, because of this, the legendary blade was hidden away until it’s chosen one arrived. With the weapon hidden, the Dragon of Many Colors disappeared off the face of Isila. Valla came into contact with both kingdoms every now and again, but was largely unknown by anyone outside the royal families.

To this day conflicts between Nohr and Hoshido continue. Very few, if anyone at all, remembers what started such animosity between them in the first place. And no end is insight.

But history has a way of repeating itself. And things have a way of coming together.

A little more about the First Dragon’s under the cut. Because outside of the Rainbow Sage, there isn’t much to talk about. At least not its own sheet.

- Yaoke’s dragon followers include Huo, Feng, Kun and Moro. - Huo and Feng are seen as the patron gods of the Fire and Wind Tribes respectively. - Kun is often worshiped by farmers. He’s the dragon Demeter. - Moro disappeared from Isila after Yaoke struck him. He lives between the realms in the Outrealms (‘Astral Plane’ as he calls it) with his follows. Isila has all but forgotten him.

- Opacare’s dragon followers are Eis, Terpsichore, Nuda, and Fenrir. - Eis is the patron god of the Ice Tribe. In live Eis was a very prideful dragon, if not rather vain. - Terpsichore serves as Cyrkensia patron. It’s considered bad luck in Cyrkensia to preform without giving Terpsichore a small offering. - Nuada is the patron of war. While the tradition of praising Nuada before battle exists in Hoshido and Nohr, Hoshido likes to pretend they’re above that as they aren’t as battle ready. - Similarly to Nuada, Fenrir is the beloved patron of both the Wolfskin and Kitsune. It’s said Fenrir crafted Beaststones after Dragonstones so the tribes could assume human form and communicate better with man.

The Golden Dragon was the first Dragon of Ether. A being born of both the physical and spiritual, Jīn Zhì’héng was tasked with keeping the balance between the spirits and humans. This role required them to be more involved in the world than the other dragons. A benevolent mediator, they were compassionate yet stern when resolving a conflict and many benefited from the peace they provided.

This peace would not last and the Heylin Demon would be the cause. It had hatched a plan to destabilise this world but to do so the demon needed to corrupt one of the First Dragons. Before its later success there was a failure. In an attempt to send the Golden Dragon into madness, the Heylin Demon poisoned them. A slow death was given but not madness. Although this was not the outcome the demon wanted it slunk away, satisfied and ready to devise a new strategy.

Jīn Zhì’héng was dying. No longer strong enough to fly, they could not continue their duty and unresolved conflicts between their charges arose. Worse still was the effect the poison was having on the spirits. The Golden Dragon’s essence was strongly interwoven with that of the spiritual and thus the poison running through their veins spread into the spirits. Violent spirits began to appear, demons and monsters.

Unable to intervene and knowing full well the chaos these creatures would bring upon the world, Jīn Zhì’héng made a choice. With the fading dregs of their power they separated the two worlds and created a third. The physical world of humanity, the spiritual realm, and the bridge in-between, The Yin-Yang World. It was a violent separation, not all spirits were brought through and some creatures died or were lost to the ether but this outcome was better than the alternative.

Task done Jīn Zhì’héng settled into death, alone without the spirits they loved and guarded, unaware of the fight to come and the vow their soul would be brought into, wracked with guilt for the lives lost in the separation.

I just realized that Lucy mom passed away in the year 777. WHAT HAPPENED DURING THAT YEAR
