On his next shift, he asks Gerrard to speak privately in his office first thing. He reminds him about Catie, tells him she's pregnant, and that she's due in late June or early July.

"I'm really happy for you, son," Gerrard says. He gets up from the desk and hugs Tommy warmly, clapping him on the back a couple of times. "I've got two of my own, three grandchildren now, and let me tell you: there's nothing better. Your life's going to change and it's going to be amazing."

"Thanks," Tommy says. "Uh. That's good to hear. It's—nerves, you know? You can't help but be nervous."

"Of course," Gerrard says. "You fill out the paperwork for your leave and I'll sign it right away."

"Thank you, sir."

Gerrard opens the door to the office and lets Tommy step outside. Tommy does and Gerrard follows, a hand on his shoulder. He leads him to the balcony of the loft and whistles sharply to get everyone's attention.

"Morning, gentlemen—and Wilson," Gerrard announces. "It looks like Kinard's girlfriend is real enough to get knocked up, so get up here and congratulate this glowing and radiant father-to-be." Gerrard's hand on his shoulder is tight enough that Tommy can't actually throw himself off the balcony, but he doesn't not think about it.

Brow furrowing, she spared a moment to catalog the sheer black panels around the heavy four-poster and the dark patterned duvet, before she focused once again on the confusing divergent sensations in her body...  Hand trembling, she reached to pull the bedcovers aside only to be distracted once more by the sight of her hand. Thin, elegant fingers, knuckles dusted with pale golden hair. Short fingernails buffed to a dull shine, the half-moons of the nail bed larger than hers normally were. Decidedly a male hand. Decidedly not her own.

My last 10 fics were all whump drabbles written for requests, so these are all lil short pieces here on Tumblr (: Also I apologize for the weird format, I accidentally made it a numbered list and can't figure out how to fix it 😅

x River stumbles, gasping, out of the building, his heart thumping so hard it feels like it may break through his rib cage at any second. He has no idea if the man he left inside is alive, but he really can't bring himself to care.

x Buck sighs as he heads into the locker room. He'd had a bit of a headache when he woke up this morning and was hoping that eating breakfast would help, but it's still bothering him – nothing too serious, but enough to be an annoyance.

x Sam should've known better than to come here. Everything about the situation had felt off from the beginning, with red flag after red flag. The angel wardings on the building should have been the last straw, but he'd stupidly continued to ignore his gut.

x "You falling behind, Hangman?" Bradshaw says over his shoulder. "Just say the word and I'll slow down for you."

x "Was the tux really necessary?" Peter asks, looking over Neal with a raised eyebrow.

x Sam jerks awake with a gasp, heart hammering. It isn't until he hears the sound again that he realizes what it is that woke him up: Dean, in his bed on the other side of the shitty motel room. He lets out another sound, something between a groan and a whimper.

x River Cartwright is going to die today.

x "D'you think maybe I should drive for a bit?" River stares out the front windscreen and clenches his jaw, though he quickly unclenches it when the action sends fresh pain through the left side of his face, up to his temple and all the way through his bottom teeth. "Absolutely fucking not."

x Clint glares at the glow of his phone screen as it buzzes loudly against the bedside table. He'd had a late night last night (the fighting bad guys kind of late night, not the fun kind) and had fully intended to sleep until noon. 6 am is definitely too early for anyone to be calling.

x Tyler has helped with more tornado clean ups than he can count. He's not new to physical labor--moving debris out of the road and loading it into pickups and trailers to be hauled off, cutting up downed limbs and trees. Not to mention the summers he spent working as a ranch hand as a teen. So he's not sure why today, when all he's done so far is sit at the table where volunteers check in and hand out water bottles, he feels like he's just been trampled by a bull.
