PHAINON — living with a person who has OCD • Obsessive Compulsive Disorder — Checking OCD: checking things multiple times to prevent perceived harm, disasters, or mistakes.
Phainon stood in the doorway, smiling softly as always. He watched as you stressed over everything, closing every door, locking all windows, checking if the oven and microwave was off and if the fridge was closed. Just as you were setting the shoes aside in case you or Phainon tripped when you got home, a hand caressed your head. Looking up, your husband was still smiling, calm as ever.
"Everything is alright, trust me. You've checked three times,"
You shook your head, muttering about how you're checking for the last time. Phainon let out a small, amused sigh as he knelt down beside you, setting a pair of your clean shoes to where his were already tucked neatly in the shoe box.
"You've done all of the rooms. You don't need to worry,"
It was a small lie. Throughout your stressed panic, you missed the bathroom, one of the most essential things of the house.
But Phainon knew better than to feed into your OCD. If he did point out the missed bathroom, he'd temporarily quiet your anxiety, but it would just make it worse. So he kept quiet.
"All done now?"
Staring at the shoes, you hesitantly nod. Phainon stood up and gave you your jacket, holding the shoulders as you put your arms in the sleeves, thanking him for being a gentleman.
Amidst all of that, you didn't even notice your keys on the counter beside the door. Phainon quietly took the keys and slipped them in your back pocket.
