pairing: originally platonic shoto todoroki x reader, but it could go either way.
word count: 1.9k
warnings: none, except my own cursing?
a/n: i was reading through the fluff prompts list earlier and i saw the prompt “i’m bad at texting first, so i always end up hoping you will.” and thought it would go along well with todoroki's social awkwardness. enjoy! fuck you endeavor.
2 am. 2 am. A perfectly normal time for any sane person to be fast asleep. However, this wasn’t the case for you. It had been two days since your friend Shoto had last texted you back, which was very odd. Whenever you initiated a conversation with him over messages, he would normally respond back within the day.
And as such befitting of your sleep-deprived brain, you decided to physically go and visit him. You lived decently close to the Todoroki estate - only about a fifteen-minute walk, or seven-minute run. There was always the chance that he would be asleep, but if he was, you could just turn around and go back home after making sure he was alright.
Fifteen minutes later, you had crossed the gardens of the house and scaled up to what you memorized as his window. You knocked on the window quietly and peered in. A pair of heterochromia grey and blue eyes stared into yours, and you watched as he stood up from his spot at the desk and, with a click, slid open the window for you to enter.
“What are you doing here?” he asked, blinking in obvious confusion.
“I… you didn’t respond to any of my texts,” you responded, reaching a hand up to rub bashfully against your neck. “I wanted to make sure you were alright.”
His face broke into a tiny smile and he stepped forwards to wrap you in an awkward hug. It was times like this that reminded you that even though he was usually stoic, cold-faced and confused at most gestures of affection, the Shoto you had declared your friend all those years ago was still the same boy he was to this day.
“Sorry about that, (Y/N). I-I’m bad at texting first, so I always end up hoping you will.” He said, snickering quietly under his breath as to not wake up anyone else in the house. “But… why did you come all the way here? You could have just called, you know.”
“Well you know, I worry more than there are stars in the sky.” You hummed back, and nothing more was said that night.
“ If we were to kill such close friends then wouldn’t we be able to free ourselves from the brainwashing known as emotion, and prove ourselves to be just as truly free as birds? “
“ I am going to kill Dos-kun. To that end, I want you to use your Ability to find out that Dos-kun’s Ability is. “

all about the girl:
(tw: parental death, closeted sexuality)
so, i’ll be able to write a more formal bio later along with her blog (if accepted, of course) but, to be brief, Ava grew up in Frostford, but went to college as far away as she could get (which happened to be Los Angeles, California). she studied to become a vet technician and lived in LA for most of her 20s. it wasn’t until her mother suddenly died from a heart attack that she came back to Frostford (if she’s honest, she probably never would have had it not been for her mother’s death). since she was the only child, and her father walked out on their family before she could even walk, everything was left to Ava. there’s a lot of guilt that she has, mainly because she left Frostford and never really looked back - including her own mother - but also because she never got to be fully honest with her mother about her sexuality.
she was a quiet girl growing up; if you were in the same graduating class, you probably knew her, but only through occasional conversations here and there. she kept her head down and studied her way to a full scholarship to a university in California, so she really only had a couple of friends, all of which she lost contact with when she moved (re: she knows how fast gossip travels, and she was paranoid that keeping any contact with people back home might somehow out herself).
her way of dealing and coping with her loss is staying in Frostford for the time being; initially, she wanted to sell the house, but after going through her mother’s things and staying around the town itself, she decided to hold off on it. it’s been a few months since she moved back, and while she’s mostly settled in, there’s a big part of her that wonders if she’ll be able to call this place home again.
connections:
PLEASE hmu and message me about any connections - old friends from before she left, new friends helping her settle in, etc. i could def see, if anybody is around her age, some interesting plots and i’d love to discuss!! thank u!
