Little lady started walking a week before her first birthday, so this weekend we headed out to pick her up some proper shoes. It was such an exciting day!

She’s been toddling around National Trust cafes etc in her pram shoes and they’re slippy and just not really suitable for walking outside of the house, so we wanted to get her something with proper soles.

Luckily for us, grandma and grandad had kindly bought Cosima a voucher for Clark’s for Christmas, knowing she was on the cusp of walking, so we were able to pick these up for ‘free’. Apparently we have to go back every 6-8 weeks for re-measuring because their feet can grow so quickly. I sense that this could be about to get very expensive!

Poor little love screamed when the lady put the measuring device on her foot and I am sure it was because she made an association with the last time she sat on my knee and a stranger approached her body- the nurse at her one year vaccinations, which she had last Tuesday. That time it was a jab in each limb and she understandably didn’t not enjoy it, so I think she was frightened this lady was going to hurt her too.

My mummy heart was breaking when I realised she seems to no longer trusts me to protect her from pain- and I can’t explain to her in a way she understands, that it’s vitally important for her long term good, even if it hurts for a few seconds in the moment. Oh! The mum guilt. But some things are not a choice and we have to do the right thing.

She calmed down quickly, anyway, and was soon happily toddling about in her new pink trainers. Oh my heart! Such cuteness.
