hi! i’ve always been very curious about this and i wondered if you knew the answer! whenever people list out the star signs, for anything like “signs in this planet” or something along those lines, they always start with aries. i thought it’s interesting because capricorn “starts the year” (is, its dates contain jan 1 ), so why do lists not start with capricorn ?
That’s a really good question!!!When I started learning about astrology I asked myself the same question!
So the vernal equinox is on the 20th of March and Aries season starts on the 20th March as well, lasting until the 21st of April. This spring equinox is the start of the zodiacal year which explains why Aries is the first sign.
I’m not 100% sure but I think it also has something to do with the Romans, because they messed around with the calendar, which used to consist of 10 months and not 12. If you look at September for example, “septem” means seven in Latin and September used to be the 7th month of the year. January and February were added and Aries wasn’t the first sign of the year anymore. Capricorn was. Astrologers sticked to the old system and so Aries is still the first sign.
