Curren awakes to a scorching heat and a face full of dirt.
Her body feels heavy, as if being pulled down by invisible weights.
She musters all her effort and pulls herself up into a sitting position.
She blinks the sand out of her eyes and takes a look at her surrondings.
In front of her stood three large pyramids, whose limestone coated exteriors shimmered in the hot sun.
Curren Chan knew instantly where she was, the question was how she got there.
She shut her eyes tight and tried her best to recall that morning's events.
Her memory was fuzzy, but it was beginning to come back to her.
She had been in her dorm, crouched by her bedside. Underneath the bed skirt was a pulsing vortex, about three feet wide, that glowed in a vast kaleidoscope of colors.
Curren made a series of soft pursing noises, the kind you make when attempting to call an unknown cat, and bent down towards the mysterious portal.
For several weeks now, she had been feeding it all manner of things. Mostly to see what would happen, but partially because she had grown attached to the strange vortex, which she had affectionately named Kitty.
It had been during this part of her daily routine that she had lost her balance, and fell feet first into the swirling whirlpool of pulsing light.
It had disappeared behind her, she remembered, and now she was here.
A flash of light in the sand beside her alerted her to the presence of her phone, which she eagerly grabbed.
It would be important to tell the others where she was, she didn't want anyone to worry.
She was about to open her messages when she took a glance at the time/date.
