Notes: long read, Azul x reader, mistakes happen, dancing, gender neutral, dancing, fluff
Part 1
Everyone was dancing with such passion but yourself. All that practice with the eels for nothing if your lover hadn’t even looked your way or asked you to dance. He was a busy octopus, and you knew he preferred to talk than dance. Yet, you still wanted to share a dance with him.
*flashback*
You: Jade, no stop that! Don’t play that video!
Jade: Oya, is this something I shouldn’t, see?
Floyd: Haha~ What are you hiding from us? *sees the video* hahahaha, you look like a squirrel trying to swim!
Looks like you couldn’t prevent the two from watching your dance practice. In preparation of the upcoming masquerade ball, you had been practicing ballroom dancing for Azul. You wanted to learn how to dance properly. To make sure you were matching all of the right steps you recorded yourself to analyze if you were doing the steps right. The twins noticed your video and couldn’t stop laughing at your failed attempts.
Jade: *trying to regain composure* Your dancing wasn’t bad at all, you were very entertaining to watch.
You: You just laughed at me, how am I supposed to believe those words?
Floyd: If you want to learn to dance that much, I’ll teach you, little squirrel~
You: No thank you.
Jade: So, are you planning on dancing with those moves of yours then?
You: On second thought, Floyd when do we start!
Since that day you practiced how to dance or really you just copied Floyd to the best of your abilities.
*end of flashback*
You: *sigh* Even with all those lessons I still can’t dance right.
Idia: *sigh* What’s so wrong with your dance moves? *mumbles*
Part 2
There was your dorm leader questioning your every move. Idia knew better than anyone how hard you practiced and your skill set. He didn’t think you were the best, but he felt it would be a loss for all that hard work you put in. Afterall, you were Idia’s dance teacher when it came to learning idol moves.
You: Hmm? Did you say something Idia?
Idia: Don’t you think your dance practice will go to waste at this point? I mean you didn’t practice like an idol for nothing did you?
You: Yeah, but I’ll only make a fool of myself if I go out on that dance floor with Azul…
Idia: Then go without him… it’s not like he’s asked you to dance.
Idia was right, the whole night you didn’t see any traces of Azul coming up to ask you to dance. He didn’t even approach the topic. Each time Azul came up to you it was for a brief conversation before he descended to the other students there. It wasn’t strange for Azul to be surrounded by people, but it was strange he didn’t ask you to dance.
You: You don’t think he’s embarrassed of me, do you? Do you think he knows how bad of a dancer I am!
Idia: I- I don’t think that’s it…
Jamil: He knows.
You: WHAT!
Jamil: He knows you teach Idia how to dance like your favorite idols. Azul is aware of your efforts too.
You: Then why isn’t he asking me to dance?
Jamil: I can say the same to you. Are you aware that a relationship isn’t a one-way line? You weren’t the only one who practiced dancing.
Part 3
Taking Jamil’s words to heart you learned that sometimes you can’t always sit and wait for the other party. You came to conclude that if the night ended like this it would waste both Azul’s and your efforts. Without wasting a moment’s rest, you reached out for Azul who was talking to Rollo for the 27th time. Once you got there you closed your eyes and reached out your hand while intervening the two.
Rollo: I’m very sorry, but I have no intentions of eating at the coral sea.
Azul: How about the monstro lounge then? See we ha-
You: Will you dance with me? *eyes closed*
???: Yes
Opening your eyes, you looked up to see your lover who was guiding you to the nearby balcony. In the corner of your eye, you saw a look of relief from Rollo before he went to comfort an upset student.
You: Azul, I’m sorry I was blind to how you felt. I thought I had to wait to ask you to dance with me. It was very foolish of me to do, I’m sorry for the way I behaved. I re-
Azul: Enough, I don’t need you to apologize to me over and over again. I know you’re not the most in tune with observations and I won’t lie, I was hesitant on asking you to dance too. I wanted to push you a little to ask me tonight.
You: I’m sorry.
Azul: But people are going to make mistakes in a relationship are they not? I made quite a few in ours as well. So, don’t think I’m going to get rid of you over something like this.
Leaning in close, Azul gave you a deep kiss before guiding you over to the dancefloor. While this night wasn’t perfect it was comforting to know the two of you grew as lovers after this night.
