CSX Corporation Reports Impressive First-Quarter 2015 Earnings

In mid-April, CSX Corporation announced its first-quarter 2015 net earnings of $442 million. This figure represents an 11 percent increase from the same period in 2014. The earnings report also showed an increase in generated earnings per share of $0.45, up 13 percent from the 2014 return. During the quarter, CSX revenue totaled $3 billion, and the company experienced growth across many of its markets. Low prices of natural gas and fuel have created an improved pricing environment for rail shipping. As a result of this excellent performance, the CSX Board of Directors approved a 13 percent increase to the quarterly dividend, to $0.18, payable on June 15 to shareholders as of the close of business on May 29. In addition, the board decided to move forward with a new share repurchase program to buy back $2 million worth of shares over the next 24 months.
