Right behind him but it can’t be. It has to be someone else. Or maybe it’s not a joke—maybe Danny’s finally cracked, crumbled under the pressure, the pretense. He’s making it up, he must be—wishful thinking. That’s all it is.
He grits his teeth until they squeak and smart. Kono isn’t by his side anymore; she must have dropped off when he wasn’t paying attention. He turns.
Steve stands behind him, in his dress uniform.
Steve crooks a fleeting smile. His eyes look heartbroken, but the rest of him is lively, spry. Clean-shaven and all sharp edges, he does not look their age. “It’s been a while, huh, buddy? I’m really sorry for your loss. Came to—well, I wanted to pay my respects.”
Oh, and here Danny thought he’d stopped by to get Danny’s stuffed pepper recipe, the one Steve used to say was the best thing he’d ever put in his mouth. His chest churns—anger starts its fine boil in his blood.
“Right,” he manages to bite out. “Well, thanks for coming.” After five years of polite holiday messages, he doesn’t say. After dozens of missed calls that only got returned at times they couldn’t be answered, or with texts offering flimsy excuses. After Steve carefully and determinedly extricated Danny out of his life—their life—of over a decade.
He doesn’t say any of that.
It's up!!!
21 chapters, hoping to post 1-2x/week.
Casting suggestions for the original characters (because my brain requires visual cues to make one):
Ben: this version of Randall Park,
Stella: Drea de Matteo (first so brilliantly cast by kho),
Danny’s mother Clara: Jamie Lee Curtis with her The Bear hairdo (just less inclined to raving rants – I’m sorry, I can’t stand Melanie Griffith in that role), and, last but not least,
The first time I heard you laugh, I only wanted to say funny things so you would always be laughing. You know what happens to chocolate when you leave it out in the sun? I’m that unfortunate chocolate and you, you are the laughing sun. For this reason, I am offering myself to you not as a martyr or some selfless fool, but as a self-indulgent moth who actively pursues the light without much fear for the flame. The moth who revels in the heat and declares: Burn me.
Summary: Seventh-year Sebastian and Elisa are desperately in love, and what better place to engage in their first time than the restricted section?

Sebastian barely made it five steps before he was on her again.
Elisa didn’t even have time to breathe before he was tugging her into the nearest empty corridor, pressing her back against the cold stone wall, his lips crashing onto hers with a newfound urgency. His hands roamed—one threading into her hair, the other gripping her waist like he was terrified she might slip away.
Elisa clutched at his robes, pulling him even closer, and he groaned against her lips, deepening the kiss until her head was spinning. “Sebastian—” she gasped, barely able to get the words out before he cut her off with another kiss, this one slower, more deliberate, sending a shiver down her spine.
“You,” he murmured between kisses, “are so—” Kiss. “infuriatingly—” Kiss. “perfect.”
Elisa giggled, dizzy with warmth, only to squeak when he suddenly lifted her, hands gripping her thighs as he pressed her fully against the wall. “Sebastian!” she gasped.
“Shhh,” he grinned against her lips, “we don’t want to get caught.” He said as he began kissing her face, and as he trailed down to her neck.
He kissed her neck like it was his second nature as she shuddered and let the smallest whimper escape her, leaning her head against the wall behind her. Wanting to hear that again, he began biting on her skin and sucking on it, causing more little cries to come from her. He left one spot after the other, leaving several marks in his wake that would adorn her neck. He couldn’t help himself—for one, he could tell she was enjoying it, but two, he was leaving traces of himself behind—traces of the fact that she was his. Her breathing was growing more rapid as he made his way back up, resting his forehead against hers for a moment.
She looked at him through partially shut eyelids, trying to catch her breath from his intensity. “You tell me to be quiet, and then do that? Not fair.” She said very quietly, laughing a little.
He smirked, planting another kiss on her lips. “That sounds like a you-problem, darling,” he said as he still held her by her thighs. “Besides, you can’t possibly blame me—you have been driving me mad all day.” His eyes briefly lowered, as he took note of her discarded robe on the ground and her disheveled uniform; her shirt unbuttoned ever so slightly as her chest rose and fell. He wanted her so bad.
He leaned his mouth to her ear. “You know, the Undercroft is away from prying eyes—”
“You know,” she replied in a mocking tone. “Ominis can come at any time.” She giggled.
“That Room of Requirement that you go to, then. We could bribe that house elf to leave for a bit—"
“We can’t do that to Deek!” She laughed, playfully smacking his chest.
“Oh, for Merlin’s sake.”
Hearing the strained voice of a nearby portrait startled them both out of their stupor, causing him to quickly drop her back down as he grabbed her hand and tugged her away, making her giggle as she ran and followed close behind him.
That evening started out innocently enough—or at least, as innocently as sneaking into the Restricted Section of the library could be. They’d gone there plenty of times during fifth year, due to the circumstances at hand.
This time, however, there wasn’t any pressing danger or life-altering mission at hand. With Elisa being a sort of Keeper for the ancient magic now, sometimes they would find themselves in there perusing for extra information that could prove useful. The library was deserted, save for the faint glow of moonlight filtering through the high windows. After slipping past a dozing librarian and muttering a quick disillusionment charm, they crept into the Restricted Section like they had done before. The faint scent of old books surrounded them as they made their way to a table, tucked away in a secluded corner.
Sebastian, ever the bookworm with a rebellious streak, had plucked a book off a high shelf, flipping through it idly while Elisa sat nearby, reading over his shoulder. She wasn’t paying much attention to the book itself—something relevant, she was sure—but instead found herself watching Sebastian.
The way the dim light accentuated the sharp angles of his face, the way his brow furrowed in concentration, the little smirk that was on his lips when he read something particularly interesting—it all made her stomach flutter. She hadn’t been able to stop thinking about him lately, not since their relationship had taken a more romantic turn. For someone whose knowledge of romance had been only contained within the pages of the novels she would read, she was surprised at how much she fell into step with this whole thing. She was especially surprised at the physical feelings she found herself experiencing; when he kissed her as if to stake a claim, when he picked her up, when he spoke lowly in her ear or when he let his hands roam over her–all of it gave her this feeling of need that she couldn’t quite satisfy.
Watching him now, his handsome features being something she couldn’t tear her eyes from, while in a very secluded area, she could feel it. She found herself first admiring his freckles, his eyes that could hold both warmth or a fire in them–-but her focus would sometimes shift down to where his sleeves were rolled up and she could see his arms. Sometimes she fixated on his hands as they simply held the book–the same hands he skillfully dueled with, and the same ones she desperately wanted to explore her body beyond what they already had.
“Seb,” she murmured, her voice soft enough to avoid disturbing the silence. As she spoke, she gently and sweetly tugged on the sleeve of his robe, looking up at him.
“Hmm?” he replied without looking up, still engrossed in the text
She reached out, her hand a little shaky as she gently closed the book in his hands. He blinked at the action, now turning his attention fully to her. “What’s wrong, doll?”
“Nothing’s wrong,” she said, smiling. “I just… you’re so focused. I just–I didn’t know if you noticed me, sometimes.”
His smirk widened, and he set the book aside. “Oh, I notice you, Elisa. Trust me.”
There was something in his tone—a teasing edge, warm and inviting—that made her cheeks heat.
Before she could respond, he leaned closer, his hand brushing hers on the table. “You’ve been awfully quiet tonight. What’s on your mind?”
She hesitated, biting her lip. “Um, it’s nothing, I just–”
“Ah ah, it’s not ‘nothing’ if it’s got my sunshine quiet. Talk to me, what are you thinking about, love?” he asked in a coaxing tone, trying to read through the lines of her words.
Her brown eyes looked down at his hand on hers, her heart speeding up as she briefly bit her lip. “...You, mostly.”
Sebastian’s face relaxed from one of concern to a bit of a smug grin. “Oh? Is that so?” he asked, leaning in.
Elisa wasn’t sure what came over her, but she didn’t pull away when he leaned in further, nearly closing the space between them.
“Yeah,” she whispered, her heart racing.
“What about me?” he asked, voice a bit quieter now.
“About…earlier, before we got caught by the painting.” she replied, her cheeks turning scarlet as her eyes remained averted from his.
“Mm, what about it?” he asked, his thumb brushing over her hand.
“That…I wanted it to continue. Um, to…go further.” she said, swallowing her nerves down as she dared to look up in his eyes again.
His eyelids closed partially as he looked at her hungrily. Of course, that is exactly where his mind wandered to when she spoke, but that wasn’t uncommon–he frequently envisioned what it would be like to have her underneath him, after all. To hear those soft sounds she’d make when they would sneak off to snog, only unrestrained. To be able to fully cherish her and devour her whole at the same time in a ravenous display of his intense love for her.
But now, she was bringing it up.
“Do you–do you understand what that would entail?” he asked cautiously, wanting to be completely certain as he was well aware that he had been her first everything thus far. Granted, she was also his, but he was all-too aware of the unfortunate fact that women weren’t always educated on these matters until the night before their wedding, and knowing her mother, he wouldn’t be surprised if that was the case for Elisa.
“I do. I…I read lots of romance novels, and–um, when those scenes come up, I find myself thinking of…you, and um, I want that. With you.” she explained carefully, her heart hammering against her chest.
As if her words caused a cord to snap within him that was restraining any ounce of self control he had been maintaining, he closed the space between them and kissed her. The confined space of the Restricted Section suddenly felt charged, the quiet only amplifying the sound of their breathing, the rustle of their robes, the thud of her back pressing against the shelves as Sebastian guided her there without breaking contact.
“In that case, I will answer your question and tell you that I find you incredibly distracting,” he murmured against her lips, his voice low and husky.
“Says the one who started it,” she shot back, breathless but unable to stop smiling.
He laughed softly, his hands settling on her waist. “Ah, that was earlier–you started this now. Are you having any second thoughts?” he asked, keeping his hands firm and still as he awaited her response.
She shook her head, pulling him closer by the collar of his shirt. “No, not even a little.”
He resumed kissing her, this time more fervently like this was a need rather than a want. His hands were firm, yet gentle, as they slid up from her waist and to the buttons of her shirt. He tantalizingly unbuttoned them one by one, not breaking their kiss. Once her shirt was open, he pulled back to look at the result. He felt his heart race as the smallest pinch of nerves hit him as he saw her in her unbuttoned shirt and her bra. She looked away, feeling just the slightest bit shy, but then before he could react, she began reaching behind her back under her shirt as she unclasped her bra, trying not to think about how she looked too much as she slid it off along with her blouse.
Sebastian was practically awestruck. He had thought of this moment so many times in the quiet moments of the night, her feeling comfortable enough to bare herself to him and allow him to have her–but now here they were, his breath almost caught in his throat for a moment as he looked at her.
“So beautiful, you are, love.” He breathed as he kissed her jaw reverently, not wanting to be silent for too long when she was bearing everything—trusting everything to him.
She felt a flush creep up on her face again as he gingerly raised his hand to gently brush against her breast, as if confirming it was okay, before he took it into his hand and continued to kiss everywhere on her face.
When she felt his palm cover over her breast, she shuddered as her breath hitched. He noticed this and smiled against her jaw before moving his thumb to slowly begin to rub her nipple, which elicited the quietest whimper from her. He maintained the motion, slow and purposeful. He had certainly done his fair share of research on these intimacies, purely for educational purposes, of course.
Her breathing was becoming quicker as he did this, causing him to use his free hand to start to tug downward at her skirt, which he swore was far too short whenever she walked in front of him anyhow. She regained eye contact with him, her face flushed as she assisted him—but all she did, to his surprise, was slip her panties off from underneath, leaving the skirt itself on. Likely to make their escape quicker if they had to run suddenly. He backed up briefly now to loosen his tie, but left his shirt on save for a few loosened buttons.
He moved his hand back behind her thigh and hoisted her up against the bookcase, her legs instinctively wrapping around his waist.
“This isn’t the most comfortable spot for this, you know? I’ll move you. I want you to be comfortable.” He whispered as she wrapped her arms around his neck for extra support as he carried her to a secluded couch. He gently laid her down, both of their hearts thundering in their chests.
Her gaze remained on him as he held her, one of his hands letting go and moving up under her skirt. Her breathing began to quicken again as he slowly trailed it up her thigh, and she reflexively spread her legs apart to grant him easier access. She pulled him closer to her body with the arms that were around his neck, her breasts gently pressing against his chest as he gently began to glide his calloused hands around her upper thigh.
Her red curls were splayed out underneath her head as she looked at him in pure adoration and trust.
“You can…you can touch me,” she said against his lips, her eyes honest despite the bit of tremble that claimed her. “In fact, I’d like for you to.”
He nearly smashed his lips against hers for a more fervent kiss, her words unraveling his composure completely.
His hand moved closer toward her heat, positioning his index finger to caress over her sensitive skin. She shuddered at his mere touch, a muffled sigh coming from her through their kiss.
He broke their kiss, his finger still maintaining its cautious movements, before he moved to kiss the sensitive skin just under her ear. She moved one of her hands to tangle in his brown locks, as the other dropped down to lay on her bare stomach as she sighed sweetly again.
“Do you realize just how badly you affect me, love?” he asked in her ear. “Because I don’t think you do,” he said, repositioning himself as he instinctively reached for the wrist on her stomach, firmly pinning it next to her head on the couch.
“Oh, Merlin, Sebastian, I think you’ve made yourself rather clear,” she said, a small smile playing on her lips as she spoke between broken breaths from his touch.
“I don’t know if I have, not truly,” he said as his hand that was pleasing her moved back further to where her entrance was.
She took a sharp inhale at the sensation, her fingers entwined in his hair starting to twitch to grab onto his brown curls.
Sebastian began teasing her there, sighing quietly as he could feel how slick it was already, like she had been thinking about it for a bit before even bringing it up. He hadn’t expected her to be so responsive so quickly, but this only fueled his growing ache of desire even more.
“Merlin, sweetheart,” he breathed as his finger carefully dipped into her, becoming coated in her pleasure.
He closely watched her shifting expression as she quietly gasped before soft and sweet little sounds from her reverberated in his ear as he found a rhythmic movement as he moved his finger inside her.
He moved his other hand from her wrist and instead cupped her cheek as he kissed over the hickeys he had left on her earlier on, a satisfied smirk tugging at his lips at the sight.
In a bold move, at least for someone sweet like honey as her, Elisa reached her newly freed hand down to feel where his length was, her hand brushing over the fabric of his trousers as she looked at him with shallow breaths. She could feel him tense and see his Adam’s apple bob as she touched him.
“Sebastian…please?” she asked, looking up at him with both the most sweet and the most desire filled eyes he had ever made contact with as her lips remained slightly parted.
He carefully removed his finger from her and kissed her lips more tenderly for a moment before pulling away.. “Use your words, doll. What do you want?”
With a shaky breath, she replied. “I want you to have me, fully. I love you.” she said as her fingers moved through his hair again, her sweet eyes looking into his in a soft but certain plea.
Sebastian felt his heart squeeze at her words and at the mesmerizing sight of her like this–underneath him, a version of her that was for his eyes and his eyes only, wanting him and loving him as much as he did her.
“I love you, too, darling. So much.” he rasped before he kissed her again, this time with a sense of desperation like this was something he had wanted for his whole life. His tongue danced with hers for a minute, his hand moving back to cup her soft breast again.
When they pulled away for a breath, he swiftly removed the clothes constraining him, and moved to carefully bunch her skirt up as he took hold of her hips, positioning her.
She stared at him for a moment, taking in the sight of him that made her feel breathless–she had thought of this moment in her own quiet moments, what it would be like, and Merlin, she wanted it; wanted to experience this with him and only with him. As he stared down at her, her eyes scanned his body in full. Her heart was beating at what felt like the fastest it’d ever done, both a little nervous and exhilarated.
“Just…tell me if anything hurts, or if you want me to stop, okay?” Sebastian requested, brushing a stray red curl from her face.
“I will. I promise, Seb.” she said, reaching to hold his hand as she smiled at him tenderly.
At her confirmation, he moved to position himself at the slick entrance his finger had just been in, before looking back momentarily for any sign of hesitation from Elisa, and when there was none, he slowly pushed himself in ever so slightly–entering in slow in case it hurt at all. His breathing was ragged as his tip reached her as he fought the intrusive thought that invited him to move with more haste. He ensured he moved slowly as he studied her face, feeling her hot breaths ghost his collarbone.
Her breath sped up again as she fully took him in, breathing through the initial pain. He slowly continued, leaning down to plant kisses on her forehead and face, groaning lowly as her warmth began to envelop him in an intoxicating way. He began rocking his hips so slowly to start, almost agonizingly slow, she thought.
When he began pumping, she gasped, eventually feeling an unfamiliar shudder run through her body as the feeling of him inside her shifted into something heavenly, something like what she envisioned euphoria to feel like—that warmth spreading from her lower body all the way up her torso.
“Oh, Sebastian–” she mewled, her grip tightening on his hair as a small smile tugged at the corner of her lips. “I-It feels good–you can go faster–”
“Alright—only if you’re sure, doll.” he said in a low tone, which made another rush go through her. She adored the sound of his voice, especially like this–low, reverent, and yearning–just for her. A tone in his voice that told her she was worth longing and aching for in the same way that she did for him.
As he quickened his pace, he lowered his head to nip and kiss at her neck again, his hand moving to massage her chest, her quick breaths turning into the sweet sound of moans that reverberated in his ear. His eyes flickered down as their rhythm caused her free breast to bounce much to his enjoyment.
“Bloody hell,” he breathed. “You are so beautiful, love,” he moved to kiss her on the lips yet again, swallowing a moan of hers as he thrusted a little harder than before. Her thighs squeezed around him in approval as he maintained his momentum.
“So are you, my sweet,” she said between kisses, nipping at his lower lip as she cupped his freckled face in her hands.
He practically melted into her kiss as he groaned again, and as he kept pumping himself into her, she was beginning to feel like something was building inside of her, prompting her to instinctively roll her hips against his. She pushed as if she was trying to get as much of him as she possibly could milk out, the feeling of her tightening around him and pushing against him sending his head into a dizzying state.
“You have no idea how long I’ve thought about having you like this,” he said, feeling her body start to tense up as his did as well.
“Yeah?” she said breathlessly before another whimper escaped her mouth.
“Mhm, and you sound so pretty,” he murmured. “I’m not going to be able to keep going if you keep doing that,”
“T-Then don’t, because I feel like I–” she cut herself off with another moan as he thrusted again. “Ah, Sebastian–”
She felt her core tightening around him even more, her body tensing further with every push. She gripped his shoulders as everything built up inside of her like water about to boil over.
“Let it go, sweetheart,” he whispered.
She let herself relax just enough, and before she knew it, it had been like a tightly wound coil had snapped inside of her as she finally released, moaning so loud he had to quickly cover her mouth to avoid drawing more attention to themselves. The feeling of her release broke his own restraint, as he buried his face in the crook of her neck to muffle his own sounds as everything came crashing down.
They remained on the couch for a few moments in a comfortable quiet, the only sound being their breaths evening out. The shadows of the library curled around them in their little tucked away corner.
Sebastian’s fingers brushed through Elisa’s hair as he looked at her lovingly, his movements slow and rhythmic as his breathing calmed down, both of them glistening with sweat.
“Are you okay?” he whispered as his thumb grazed her temple.
She nodded, barely, as a soft smile graced her features. “Mhm. I’m better than okay.”
Sebastian smiled. “Good, I just wanted to make sure.”
He could still feel the pounding of his heart—not from nerves, not anymore—but from the sheer ache of how much he loved her.
“What about you?” Elisa asked quietly.
He chuckled. “I can say the same.” He kissed her chastely before sighing, nuzzling his nose to her cheek. “We should sneak back out before we get caught. Bad enough we are in the restricted section to begin with, let alone like this,”
“Fine,” she murmured, pouting as she sat up. They recovered their discarded clothes and she buttoned her shirt back up as he put his own clothes back on. She looked up at him warmly.
“Seb, will you hold my hand the whole way back?”
He grinned, chuckling as he playfully rolled his eyes at her. He leaned down and kissed the top of her head, looking at her. “Always.”
They gathered themselves together and made their sneaky escape from the room, and when they were in a safe area, Sebastian reached to lace his fingers with hers, as promised, before he walked her back to the Hufflepuff entrance.
‘Always’ was a fitting response; even more than the two of them realized at that moment.
For just as their hands were entwined, their fates were entwined with one another for the rest of their time.
