sturgeon fun fact, their skeleton is made mainly out of cartilage like sharks, but they’re still classified as bony fish. also they don’t have scales like most fish, instead they have skin, and armoured plates called scutes, which run in five lines down the length of their body. also they have no teeth, instead they use their mouth as a vacuum to suck up food from the gravel and substrate of the bottom of their riverine habitat, and also (again) they have four barbels (thin sensory organs - think of catfish’s whiskers) that precede their mouths, which they drag along the bed as they swim to help locate food. yeah their anatomy is pretty sick.
