i was browsing at petsmart a few days ago, and saw this little guy dancing around in the little cups they sell bettas in. i’ve done a lot of research on them for the past few months and really wanted to be a good fish parent. i wasn’t planning on finally buying a fish that day, but he was so lively. i knew he needed some more space to move around and stretch his little fins out, so i bought a tank (a decent sized one with room for him to move), some simple care things (food, water conditioner, etc.), and some starter decor (a live plant and the betta log). i’m hoping to add onto it and really make it a happy home for him.

his bottom, dangly fins (idk what they’re actually called) are curled up from being in the tiny petsmart cup. i’m hoping that having more room helps them uncurl, but i’m not too sure how it’ll turn out. i’ve tried to look it up, but i haven’t found anything similar to his problem. if anyone knows anything, please let me know, i really want to make sure he’s happy and healthy.

him being here for the past few days has been amazing, and i look forward to seeing him constantly. i come home from work ready to see my fish lol

Oh god. I thought I would quickly clean one of the fish tanks out, then have a nap.

Instead, I knocked over the fish tank and scared the hell out of my roommate while yelling “Mama’s got you, don’t worry, Mama’s got you!” as I frantically scooped up guppies off the floor before they reached the drainage grate. And because my vision is so bad, and they blend into the patterning on our tiles, I was distraught because the piece of washi tape I was convinced was the last fish wasn’t swimming when I put it in fresh water.

Now, all fish are accounted for, and divided into two different tanks to give them more space.

Meanwhile, the ones in the tank I cleaned last week are looking remarkably smug.

Fish Family Reunion Tomorrow

I'm pretty excited for it. I miss my fish family from last year a whole lot. I literally just went through the whole Facebook group timeline, and I kept tearing up. Fish family is awesome. 💛💙💜💚❤️💗🐠🐟🐡 Earlier, I realized that my year of leading a fish school is more than half over, and I was so, so sad. I love this.
