Happy Thanksgiving, from Team RWBY (not mine)
What’s in a name...?
Hey, just had this thought. It’s one of those, “Oh Lordy, this is depressing in hindsight” thoughts, but I had to get it out so all would share in my misery.
Does anyone remember, in Volume 2, “Extracurricular”, Jaune hitting on Weiss and Weiss shooting him down? And when called out on it, Weiss said, “All my life, boys have only cared about the perks of my last name.” At the time, we just took it for typical “Mean, rich girl being superficial”.
Now, let’s jump forward towards to Volume 5, “Alone Together”. When talking to Yang, Weiss gives us this glimpse into her past: “When I was ten, my dad finally admitted to my mom that the only reason he married her was for the family name.”
Ouch. And double ouch.
So I’m assuming that Weiss was so traumatized by what happened to her mom, that afterwards she just assumed that any guy, or maybe, any person, who showed her with any sort of kindness, was just doing it for the future rewards. And it isn’t until she gets to Beacon, until she meets genuinely kind and earnest people, that she starts to accept that there may be such a thing as good intentions. People that she can feel she can treat without being taken advantage of?
It’s been a long road for her, hasn’t it...?
