Whats that headcannons you say?
Ah you guessed it this time I’ve had some seawing thoughts drifting around my brain!
I’ve always been a little unhappy with how they have been depicted as just honestly regular dragons with gills. There so much space to play with biological adaptations!
One such adaptation I thought could be spraying water! A way to help combat the effectiveness of fire against seawings. Rather than shooting the hot boiling water from their mouths, I’ve opted for the idea of hard ridges that protrude from the top of their heads.
I really like how much diversity this offers with crests patterns and shapes being unique to each individual and family.
The smaller fins near the sides of their heads are more largely for aesthetics than any real reason, giving them a more fish like quality.
Different head shapes! I must emphasize how much I love the idea of unique head shapes depending on the area seawings could live! More streamlined and pointed heads the deeper they live in the ocean? Or larger less streamlined heads opting for slightly more drag in the water but a more ethereal flowy look.
I’m not quite happy with the head to body proportions but I wanted to put this here even though it’s not perfect. I opted to not include the wings because I couldn’t figure out how I wanted to drawl them and I wanted have the spines visible.
But don't get me started on spines! Spines could be a wonderful way to deter close combat fights between dragons! It would allow seawings to stand a better chance without fire, opting to deter dragons from hitting vital areas. Along with the possibility of spines having toxins!
If you can’t tell the ocean and all of its inhabitants are so amazing! I definitely recommend looking through the internet and finding the most interesting fish you can!
None of these ideas are concrete and just some things I’ve been playing around with.
