I recently read the book -The Compound Effect by Darren Hardy. I'll do a post on it soon. There is one line in it, in a chapter called choices. I'm paraphrasing it like this... Choices make behaviours, behaviours make habits. ; It really struck me. I know that we have been beaten to death with the importance of consistency, discipline and good habits. But as anyone who has tried to give up ANYTHING will know, that a habit is not only a hard thing to break but it is equally as hard to start a new one to replace it. ; I have always struggled with this one and have regularly started projects, diets, health kicks, and other random plans only to be doomed to failure within the first day or week. The thought of sticking to anything long term scares the life out of me if I don't see results straight away then I tend to not see the point and just give up. ; When I started this year, The Year Of Less But Better. I had to force myself not to think about it as a full 12-month project. That was just too big a life change for my brain to handle. If I did that I would psyche myself out like normal and be a big old flopping failure, like so many things before. Instead, I forced myself to only focus on each day, make the little choices that I needed to do to tick all the boxes to stay within the rules of the Year. ; Once I stayed within the rules making tiny little positive choices, I would could it as a job well done and then focus on the next day. ; Now in my 4th month. So far so good. Although there have been many hard days when I wanted to join my friend in a drink or buy a pair of jeans on sale. However, I can safely say that I am still on track with my No Spend and Embracing Minimalism Year. Although, I am still incapable of planning more than 2/3 days ahead of time. But this works for me. I'm a bit of a How To Eat an Elephant type of person. ; Are you a short term or long term planner? Do you think that small choices really make a difference? ; ; ; #healthfoodchoices #healthierchoices #fitchoices #foodchoices #betterchoices #lifechoices #thecompoundeffect #darrenhardy #healthychoicesmatter #smartchoices #healthychoices #smartfoodchoices #makehealthychoices (at Ireland (country)) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwKyPRrFYAE/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=16xhsbiqkl7e2
