RotSH Prompt!
Zombie Apocalypse AU
(Okay, I just watched Marvel's "What If..." Series and I got this Idea after watching episode 5, "What If... Zombies?!", so here y'all go.)
*★°*:.☆.:*°★*
A weird plant-like Monster has appeared in Melromarc. It has been taking over the bodies of the adventurers that came to kill it, turning them into mindless slaves.
Itsuki and his party end up being the ones to find the Monster. Around it is a gruesome scene, and it became obvious that the Monster didn't possess or take the people. It controlled their dead bodies. But, the monster was weak enough to die to a single one of Itsuki's arrows.
But, despite that, the bodies are still moving.
The Monster only controlled them to its will by releasing a spore after reanimating their corpses. Now, the dead bodies are free to seek out to try and fill their hunger or fresh food.
They're zombies.
Quick to realize this, Itsuki and his party hurry to leave the scene before being spotted, so they can get away and alert as many people as possible, and the Queen.
However, the zombies, despite their broken bodies, travel fast, infecting all humans and demi-humans in their way.
And they're not just bodies trudging about. They can still use their magic and weapons, and the demi-humans still have their great senses, skills, and strengths.
They don't feel pain and have no body restrictions because of that. Even when burnt or frozen, they keep moving, until their heads are shattered.
When Naofumi, Filo, Raphtalia, and Rishia had been hurriedly picked up from their camping spot in the forest by Fitoria, into a large, bus-like carriage already containing the other Four Heroes, the Queen, and two Princesses and Eclair and the Old Lady, they were confused.
They had no idea what was going on, or what giant horde of zombies was surrounding the forest. They were lucky Fitoria got to them first.
Upon seeing the destruction and demise caused by the zombies, Naofumi becomes sure.
This world wasn't worth saving, and now it's already doomed.
Fitoria takes them all to Cal Mira Archipelago, since it's a bunch of islands off the mainland, that the zombies can't get to yet.
The people of Cal Mira are shocked and devastated once they learn of what's happening on the mainland, and while Queen Mirellia tries to prepare the people to migrate to another kingdom, something happens.
A Wave-Time appears. Four days until another Wave will happen.
They don't have the manpower or resources for this, but they have to try. They're already signed up, and can't get out of the teleportation.
Four days later, the Wave Happens over Cal Mira's islands, and Monsters fall from the skies again.
People too.
L'Arc, Therese, and Glass are back, once again with the goal of killing off the Four Cardinal Heroes.
But, before they can properly fight, Naofumi asks to talk a bit.
He tells of what has already become of this world. During those four days, they were at Cal Mira, Fitoria has felt over half of the world become overrun by zombies. Only a few people, those living on islands, are left. And not even they're completely safe, for the demi-humans are affected too, and the water-based ones are on their ways.
A few have already washed ashore at Cal Mira's islands.
Shocked at the state of the world, the three can't help but feel kind of bad.
Naofumi also mentions that because of his high defense which only L'Arc and Glass have been penetrated, he's probably the one who's safest from the infection.
After hours of fighting side-by-side while talking, the otherworlders decide to take the survivors at Cal Mira to their world. As the Wave ends, this world's doom is sealed.
Something happened during the teleportation to the other world.
Glass, Raphtalia, Eclair, the Old Lady, and the rest of the people from Cal Mira landed in Shroud. But, Filo was pushed away from everyone else with one of the demi-humans from the group, while Naofumi, L'Arc, Therese, and Rishia were thrown in another direction.
(Kyo intervened, and ruined them all landing together.)
Naofumi, L'Arc, Therese, and Rishia all end up in the infinity labyrinth where they find Kizuna.
After some traveling and fighting, and reuniting in Shroud, the group can let out a sigh of relief, as all they have to think about is getting the otherworlders settles in this new world and the Waves and Wars in this world. Still, probably better than a zombie apocalypse.
But...
After a few Waves, something happens...
The zombies start coming through the Waves.
Their peace was short-lived.

Personal Headcanons ⭐️:
Just finished Rising of the Shield Hero and I really enjoyed it. While the over-arching plot was not wildly original, the characters were great. Even from episode 1 you really hate some of them and just want to scream at the screen. The hero isn't perfect either -- not bad and does grow, but definitely starts out more of an anti-hero.
What really sold me (and I think this is applicable to a lot of shows in the genre) was the little things they did to build the world. It wasn't just rainbows and sunshine -- having some grimey or darker aspects of the economy gave provided a better sense of "this is a real world with imperfect beings".
Also...THE DRESSMAKER!!! She is in maybe 5 minutes of the entire series, but she was so wonderful! Also the fact that clothes for people who can transform must be woven from thread made by the wearer's mana was delightful! (Given the deluge of light novels -- and isekai light novels on top of that -- there is definitely some flak the genre gets for being supposedly 'low quality' at times. I think that is unfair when you get fun ideas like that from this source. Sure there is a lot, and not all of it is perfect, but I want many cakes).
The whole trading aspect was also great -- he has to basically run a business to make ends meet. Not only does this provide a way for more world exploration, but also breaks up the fighting and positions it better within the plot. It gives a natural context rather than dungeon crawling.
Also giant bird (Fitoria!) and smaller giant bird (Filo)!
And Raphtalia -- she is just so cool!
EDIT: Also Kevin Penkin did the music -- I will watch anything he did the music for.
