Fitting Rooms
I always knew I was different by the way rooms changed when I walked into them like the air stiffened like something didn’t belong and everyone felt it but me
I learned to fold myself smaller to soften my voice to laugh a half-second late so it wouldn’t sound wrong Still, I never fit just hovered at the edge of every circle
People say be yourself like it’s a safe place to stand They don’t tell you what happens when yourself is too quiet, too heavy too much or not enough all at once
I watched others move through life like they were fluent while I translated every breath Even joy felt borrowed like I’d have to give it back the moment someone noticed I was holding it
Loneliness isn’t always being alone Sometimes it’s sitting beside everyone and feeling invisible anyway Sometimes it’s knowing no one is coming because they don’t see what’s missing
I don’t want to be special I don’t want to be strange I just want to exist without apologizing for the way my heart beats our of rhythm with the world
Being different didn’t make me stronger It made me tired But I’m still here carrying a soul that doesn’t quite match the mold hoping one day It won’t feel like a wound
life, maybe?

SWEATER WEATHER
People who leave clothes in the fitting room are always bringing the whole fucking store there smh
My job just opened the fitting rooms. It has big “wear a mask at all times” sign hanging inside each one.
I’m the only person who takes Covid seriously at my job. I’m the one who reminds customers to put on their mask when they walk in. I’m the one who kicks people out when we reach capacity. My manager told me that I need to “relax” a little because “sooner or later everyone is going to get it. It’s basically a cold”.
Maybe it was a cold FOR YOU(she had a mild case of it). But for others it’s much worse, it’s even caused death so....wtf are you talking about, ALSO I don’t plan on catching it anytime soon so tf.
Anyways I’ve been trying to be nicer about my approach. These two older ladies walked in and tried some stuff on. AS SOON as they stepped in their dressing rooms they both ripped off their masks. I smiled and pointed to the signs in their rooms and they just looked at me and closed their curtains.
I was two seconds away from going off when my manager took over the fitting rooms and sent ME to the stockroom.
Ugh. We sanitize all the rooms after each use anyway, but it’s still annoying when people show such blatant disrespect for others.
Lol I miss fitting rooms
