It's a typical morning at the Greek Street house of pleasure. Charlotte and Lucy are spatting, there are culls that need servicing, and Charlotte is in a very bad mood. She doesn't care for the life of a bawd, she has too much responsibility, and there is no fun in her life. She's very, very tired and wishes she could take a few days to herself. Nancy tries to talk to Charlotte to get her to face her feelings and her fears. She can't hide away from her feelings for Isabella for ever. Charlotte decides she is absolutely right and takes steps to resolve that 'thing' between her and Isabella that was vexing her days and tormenting her nights.

Context wise, Margaret Wells has been shipped off to America, Dame Death is in Beldam, Harcourt has been neutralized, but Charlotte and Isabella have not spoken yet. This story fits into the in-between time from S2 E8 and S3 E1. I find it hard to believe that Charlotte would just forgive Isabella so quickly and easily, however, since she does, it speaks volumes to the love that they shared.

hey all, I’m writing a paper following up on my research on Dead Lesbian Syndrome and Lexa in The 100 kind of shifting towards this new era of television, focused on Harlots and the [spoiler] death of Charlotte Wells. My idea is to do a personal essay looking at my research on media representation and its impacts for marginalized people, zeroing in on queer representation specifically, and my feelings after Lexa’s death and reevaluating my feelings about Dead Lesbian Syndrome as they relate to Harlots -- which had five/six queer women on the show by the end of season two and killed off one (but did away with two others with no explanation). My question really is, in a television show with multiple queer characters and good queer representation, does Dead Lesbian Syndrome still leave a negative impact on viewers? In a television landscape that has more queer women than ever before, does Dead Lesbian Syndrome still have the same negative impact that it did when Lexa died in 2016? And does DLS, Bury Your Gays, and Queerbaiting still matter to us (the queer viewers)?

I don’t know how many of you who still follow me or see my posts have experienced queerbaiting (specifically for queer women), Dead Lesbian Syndrome or other harmful tropes common for sapphic characters, but I would like to know your thoughts and opinions if you have them. Does it still hurt you when a lesbian dies on a more current show? Does it still bother you that queerbaiting happens even when there are many other shows to turn to with queer women? Please send me asks/anons/even DMs if you would like to weigh in.

The Gift

“Let me break his spell”, Charlotte had whispered to Isabella. And so the spell was broken. Her heat had melted the frost that lined Isabella’s heart. Charlotte had prized open the cage, set the songbird free. In turn, Isabella’s rose had bloomed, grown from bud to wide open flower, nourished by kisses, touches, tongues exploring, healing, words whispered in the darkness. Tender or frantic, every breath shared cured the poison grief until there was only freedom.

A gift that changed everything.

A gift that even death could not break.

Harlots Fic Appreciation Week: Share a fic that inspired you

I saved this square until last because I didn’t want to choose just one fic and then I decided I wouldn’t. Every fic I read, in this fandom and across fandom generally, inspires me. It inspires me even if it’s about characters that aren’t my favourites or contains a kink that I don’t share or isn’t written in a style that I personally enjoy. It inspires me because putting your writing out into the world is terrifying, you worry that it isn’t good enough, that nobody will want to read it. But every person who pushes through that fear helps to keep the fandom going (along with the people who read them, and the people who create moodboards and gifsets and other art that I don’t even know the names for, and the people who share headcanons and meta and keep the discourse going long after the thing we’re all in love with has left the screen).

So with that in mind, here’s a selection of fic that I love which I haven’t had a chance to share yet during @harlots-week. There’s still a lot that I’ve missed out, and I did consider just leaving a link to the Harlots archive, but that felt ever so slightly like cheating even though it would be very much in the spirit of this post.
