[ Sometimes, less really does say more. Kain doesn’t normally have an audience on the phone lines with him, but Mustang was the one with the questions to interrogate, and Fuery was simply his operator. According to Roy, the general out west is notoriously difficult to earn an audience with, let alone without an appointment. But drastic times called for drastic measures, and Fuery knows a comm op stationed westward who owes him a favor. ]
❝ -- Hello? Hey, Mort, it’s Specs, how’ve you been? ❞
[ He’s never considered himself a schmoozer- certainly not in the way that Roy is. But Kain’s found that a polite, persistent tone, and a careful choice of words, can get a guy further than they’d expect. It isn’t a long conversation: a few minutes of talking shop and kissing ass, followed by some needling about a very important request, and they’re put on standby for the general.
It’s the sound Mustang makes that turns Kain’s attention- something between a snort, and a guffaw. But the smirk he pairs it with is nothing short of impressed. The sergeant beams, flashing him a glance of equal mischief. Sometimes, the best compliments are the fleeting. ]
❝ General Laurent? You have a private call from Central, I’m patching him through. -- All yours, sir. ❞
me 🤝 @fiuehrer getting Roy Mustang vibes from Hamilton
“I probably wouldn’t be the best mediator, but if Ed and the colonel want to try talking out their issues instead of fighting, I could try!”
Is the colonel talking about women again?
Yes, yes he is.
Sigh.
She should be used to this by now.
he’s holding a bouquet; that isn’t all that surprising, in and of itself. this is Roy, of course— and if the reputation which had been impressed upon her long before she’d ended up working in his company held any merit, no doubt the florist was a frequent destination of his.
it’s funny to run into him out-and-about, doubly so if said arrangement was for who she imagined it was; so she can’t help a smile that warms her features.
until, of course, she gets a better look at the arrangement. she’s squinting for a second, scrutinizing, before her brows jump toward her hairline.
“Sir! I mean— Roy? Mustang; Sir.” That they weren’t in uniform had her address uncertain, but Easy quickly settles for what she knows, approaching with a flicker of a smile, “fancy runnin’ in t’ you out here!.. an’ not t’ pry or nothin’, but I suppose you’re, uh,”
she gestures to the bouquet in his hand with a slight nod, and a nervous twinge to her smile, “meeting someone soon? awful nice day for it, I reckon...”
@fiuehrer; do you know much about the language of flowers? | from ♥
HE’S USED TO IT — more specifically, he’s used to having to apologize for his brother. edward’s excused himself for a moment for who knows what, & now he’s left laughing awkwardly before colonel mustang. alphonse bows before the other, though he knows full well that formalities are sometimes wasted with the combination of the elric brothers & mustang. haha. this is fun. maybe.
so he surveys the other’s office & passes time — casts his soul-bound glance over shelves of books & stacks of paperwork that he is thoughtful enough not to read. ‘ anyway, my brother didn’t mean to swear in front of you. he’s . . . ‘ getting excited by the prospect of his verbal freedom ? ‘ a teenager. ‘ & so is he — but he’s not making the same crude mistakes as his brother. ‘ we appreciate your work . . . your ambition is impressive to say the least. also, while edward is gone — ‘ maybe it would it would be productive if he were to begin the brothers’ request while edward was away. ‘ we’re thinking about the research fund. what do you use it on ? ‘
