that, in truth, sounds terrible. he wants no ghosts and no reminders of things past. knowing it something shared by everyone does not make his fondness for the concept grow. it is childish and an impossible thing to wish for ― and it would be quite impractical in any case, would work against anyone he thinks even if it brought temporary peace. it does not change the fact that he dislikes the idea, has to stifle his urge to grumble. she says ghosts and he thinks of father, gone for years now and still a presence in his mind, with how much he clings to the memory of him. ❝ that sounds ― ❞ he hestiates a moment before speaking, fingers playing with the edge of his sleeve. ❝ how do you bare it ? ❞

her words make him chuckle, for he does naught but worry, some days. he allows himself to forget at times, but that is dragonstone's influence, the troubles eventually leaving his mind as long as he's at the island. he knows not what he would think were he to be at king's landing all the time, as she is. the reminder of the situation is violent each and every time, no matter how many times they return to the red keep, the tension seemingly growing tauter with each passing year. he is a liar if he refuses her words, true, but what could he respond ? that he dreads the day things snap ? that part of him thinks there shall be resolution, at least ? he cannot say he looks forward to it, but the anticipation may be worse. saying nothing would happen is a lie as well, something will. family they may be, but they don't behave as such and they have not for a long time now. he just doesn't know what that something will be. ❝ i would prefer not to be branded as such, if that's alright. ❞ he says instead, but he's smiling, strained as it may be due to the topic. he much prefers his own manner of dealing with it ― ignoring it until he could not. ❝ of course it troubles me, helaena. there is a reason i do not reside at king's landing. ❞ he mutters after a moment of hesitation. several reasons, but she would know better than most. ❝ as long as king viserys lives, nothing will happen. ❞
