I'm half-American but nothing in my mind makes the American flag any more special or holy than any other flag. You don't step on ANY country's flag. I wouldn't step on an American flag, I wouldn't step on a French flag, I wouldn't step on an Iraqi flag. This is not patriotism (which I avoid like the plague) or flag worship, this is simple respect; no country is any better than the other, and all deserve equal respect. I take pride in the fact that I was raised in the diplomatic corps, and taught to have an appreciation and respect for the cultures and existences of all countries. I bet money that if a "Stand on the Syrian Flag" challenge was trending, no one would take nearly as much offense. A trend like this shouldn't offend because it's America, it should offend because it's any country. It's not a competition.
