Melkor had been lurking in the shadows, waiting to see this maia once more and here he was, so amusing as well, “What do you imagine your Master will do? Am I not allowed to watch you all work?” Technically he was doing nothing wrong but it was clear from the look in his eyes he wanted to do many things wrong with the maia.

Melkor could barely breathe. He finally had him, and he would break him until he acquiesced to the dark Vala’s wants. He watched Gothmog lead a group of balrogs into the chamber, inside which hung an unconscious Maia, held up by one balrog on either side.

“Bring him to me. Bring him here,” he breathed, eyes fixated on the peaceful face of the one he’s coveted for so long: Mairon. One of Aulë’s. The group dragged Mairon to the large cage Melkor had built in the middle of the room, and locked him inside.

When Aradir was asked to come down to the dungeons, it was either to reprimand someone who had gone too far, or watch. In this case, they had a new prisoner that didn't look like any Vierr. They had a bag over their head but was otherwise chained.
