You know, even if Dune somehow wasn't alluding to oil in the Middle East, the mere fact that it's a story about controlling resources, religion, classism, and international relations among other things makes it impossible to put it on a list of apolitical works whose themes are in no way inspired by real-life. Since when do people only understand 1:1?

Thank you<3 But you know how you absord all these dumb rules about what is and isn’t art, and sometimes they conflict? Like it has to be either complex scenes with loads of detail that are so technically good and impressive or it’s totally abstract and conceptual things or it’s neat very stylized and funny and you just keep creating more new categories for yourself to not fit into because your brain is kinda dumb? Well, I do that, anyway. Which I guess in a positive light you could see as not doing the same as everyone else, which is usually a good thing, but also like not fitting into any category that anyone has any use for*? Idk man.
