Flatey island, located in Breidafjordur bay on the northwestern part of Iceland is a tiny island.
This remote little island has only one dusty road leading from the ferry dock through the so called old village. The old village consists of several beautifully kept old and restored houses in cheerful colours. The atmosphere in Flatey is very relaxed and everything is very quiet and tranquil

Orange Lighthouse - Breiðafjörður - Iceland da Nonac_eos Tramite Flickr: Breiðafjörður is a large shallow bay, about 50 km wide and 125 km long and located in the west of Iceland. It separates the region of the Westfjords (Vestfirðir) from the rest of the country. Breiðafjörður is encircled by mountains, including glacier Snæfellsjökull the Snæfellsnes peninsula on the south side and the West Fjord peninsula to the north. You may want to press "L" to see it large on black.
Another map by Samuel Eggertsson (1864-1949). This is Flatey island in Iceland. This edition of the map was published in 1945, but the island was surveyed by Eggertsson in 1906. This image was scanned from a postcard, hence the poor quality.
The Hotel Flatey on Flatey Island, Iceland, is popular among tourists in summer.
