Flat mag group project; the wandering eye
Concept
Finally putting all of our content together to create our finished flat mag! It was a process of moving things around, changing pictures and wording... but finally we ended up with a final product that we couldn’t have been more proud of (last photo) and handed it in, a feeling our proud accomplishment settling over our whole little group
Flat mag designing! Deciding on which two colours to use for our flat mag was challenging especially with the amount a group member came up with! Eventually we decided on a nice light blue and pink... Then we began to fiddle with fonts
Group Flat Mag for Graphic Design! Beginnings of planning layout and topics, with our finished and written up brief summary of our flat mag statement
Here is the final layout and design of our Flat Mag! Overall I am very happy with the outcome of it. Last minute before our printing day, Estelle and I sat down after our tutorial and had a play around with the design of the background. I suggested the varying layers of organic shapes and how it should be in different tints so it fills up the background without drawing too much attention away from the articles and stuff in the foreground. It essentially fills the negative space and makes the eyes wander to the articles.
For my article for the Flat Mag, unfortunately the local businesses I sent emails to did not get back to me in time for our printing. I decided to change my article, it still relates to fashion, however it talks about the fast fashion industry and the pros and cons regarding it and how we should be supporting local buisnesses. Overall I am happy with my article and the design will be getting improved to look more appealing. We have also decided our colours to be blue and a salmon pink colour.
After our group presentation to the class after some reflection I felt that the design of our flat mag was not strong enough and was not very cohesive. After having a browse of some layouts on Pinterest I gathered some inspiration and suggestion to the group that we have a similar design of our flat mag to the images above. It was well recieved and we also started figuring out our colour scheme.
Interview Questions
These questions are based on the fashion scene of Hunter and Darby street Newcastle. And is also aimed at the demographic of university students and the diversity that they bring to the culture of fashion.
Q1: What are your opinion/s on fashion culture around Newcastle’s CBD?
Q2: New seasons bring new trends within the fashion industry. Do you think the majority of Newcastle residents follow these trends? If no, why do you think that?
Q3: I have observed international students bring their own cultural fashion trends and showcase them around. Have you yourself noticed any of these international trends and do you think Newcastle has adopted some of these trends in their own fashion choices?
Q4: How do you think your store influences the fashion scene in Newcastle?
Here I have written interview questions for local businesses around Hunter and Darby Street.
